Yesterday I snuck into Contraband with a friend of mine who'd never a rated-R movie before. Right after that I met up with my boyfriend next to the snack bar to go see Sherlock Holmes 2. :)

Just tonight, my wife, a friend, and I just watched Shark Night.
It was no more or less than I had expected - which wasn't much.

Jane Eyre (2011) - I decided to watch it mostly because I loved Mia Wasikowska in Alice in Wonderland (2010) and wanted to see more of her work, and also because I am currently obsessed with Victorian England.

I came into this movie with low expectations despite the critical praise it has received, because period drama movies usually bore me and I'm not very fond of fiction containing heterosexual romance. That being said, this movie far exceeded my expectations. It was fast-paced and highly emotional, but not to the point of being melodramatic. I regret using up my tears during the first few scenes in the movie, because the really heavy stuff comes during the last half hour.

I liked how at first Jane was very reserved, but gradually opened up to the people in her life. This was especially noticeable in her interactions with Mr. Rochester. By the time the movie was over, she had laughed with him, cried with him and gotten angry with him. People who had criticized Mia Wasikowska for her allegedly "wooden" performance in Alice in Wonderland need to see this movie, because she definitely shows range here.

Some people thought that the ending of the movie was cut too short, and that may be true for people who have read the book first. But as someone who is not familiar with the book, I thought the movie ended on a perfect note.

All in all, I really, really enjoyed this movie. In fact, I think it deserves a spot in my top 5, alongside Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and, of course, Alice in Wonderland (2010).

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. It may be the best movie of the year. Even though it is a reimagination of the book, with some parts from different books mixed in, it is very faithful to Hergé's books and the animated series I watched when I was a child.

I particularly loved the appearances of minor characters like Allan (Capt. Haddock's first mate), Aristides Silk and Bianca Castafiore. I hope Prof. Calculus appears in the next film (he probably will, since his first appearance was in Red Rackham's Treasure, the sequel to The Secret of the Unicorn).

And the chase scene and Capt. Haddock's "memories" will probably be the best action scenes of the year.

thought it was amazing and lovely. but can't decide whether or not it would've made a better movie if the ending had been opposite. anyone else seen it and have any thoughts?

I love that one too. If the ending had been different, I would have been really sad.

i was kinda expecting the sad ending. might've had more impact i reckon. still good though

Have you seen Premonition? Sandra Bullock is in that one too.

I just saw Haywire.

Think of this as The Bourne Identity for women but more awesome! :D

Am I the only here who thinks Michael Fassbender
would make an awesome James Bond once Daniel Craig finishes?

I just watched Mr Bean's Holiday and had a little chuckle. Nice to watch with my 6yr old, except for having to read out the subtitled bits.

I just re-watched the remake of The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari. Like the silent era German original, it conveys the sensation that you the viewer are watching a bad dream, where things don't always look right or make sense (such as having your fortune told by a sleep walker), along with a slowly growing sense of peril. In truth, it's a tale told from the perspective of a madman. Very, very creepy.

We just watched the remake of Snow Beast on SyFy. The original, which had scared me as a little kid, was doubtlessly terrible, but the remake only serves to make it look good!
