I just watched The Manchurian Candidate and the 2004 remake couldn't hold a candle to the original, even with Denzel Washington.

Best:

True Grit
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
Star Trek-even this Trekkie enjoyed it
3:10 to Yuma
King Kong
Ocean's Eleven

Worst:

The Wicker Man
Steel Magnolias-made as a Lifetime movie
Robin Hood-the invasion scene ruined it for me, as it looked more like a reverse of D-Day.
I Am Legend
Psycho
How the Grinch Stole Christmas- the live action version doesn't hold a candle to the animated classic.

Get Carter (2000) is no masterpiece, but it's a pretty good action film that deserves a lot better than it got.

The elevator scene in particular is excellent:

The most famous Maltese Falcon of 1941 with Bogart was in fact a remake of the 1931 Maltese Falcon which, incidentally, being a pre-Breen Office movie, was more risque.

Funny Games

Even with Naomi Watts, this remake is on the same level of crappiness as the Psycho remake, given both were shot-for-shot remakes.

True Grit is a good remake.

War of the Worlds is, for me in the middle. The special effects are good.

The Producers was pretty good. I give it credit for being a musical.

Worst: 'Let me in'...they wouldn't even keep the appropriate title!
'Red Dragon'....not that much worse, but worse all the same.
'Halloween'(2007) pointless garbage.
The wretched 'Three Musketeers' (1993) a disgrace all round.
'The Omen' (2006)
'The Hitcher' (2007) Totally unnecessary
'City of Angels': a lousy remake of 'Wings of Desire' by Wim Wenders
'The Fog' (2005) loathsome, detestable, repugnant

Worst of the lot is the 1999 remake of 'The Haunting'. Odious rubbish, the writer, producer and director should have been shot like dogs.

I expect the remake of 'Carrie' to be worthy of incusion with this pathetic bunch.

The remake of the Maltese Falcon has a good reputation.

Indeed, although I hate to see the 1931 version so often dismissed, since it's actually better in some ways. It's pre-Code (in other words, uncensored) and comes across as a much more edgy and ballsy film, and some of the supporting actors are better. The 1941 version is splendid, though.

The 1999 remake of The Thomas Crown Affair was pretty good. A few differences, but a decent remake when compared to others.
