Monty Python * Blackadder * Red Dwarf * As Time Goes By * Butterflies * Solo * Good Neighbors * Father Ted * Vicar of Dibley * Waiting For God * To the Manor Born * Yes Minister * My Hero * Fawlty Towers * No Place Like Home * There are more, but can't think of their names. Grew up watching Britcoms on PBS all the time, eventually I could understand & appreciate the humor & cleverness. Much prefer these versions over most U.S. sitcoms.

Hey, I was about to say that. But I also really like Black Adder and Faulty Towers, too. And of course Benny Hill.

And for sentiment, I enjoy As Times Goes By and Monarch of the Glen.

If Monty Python doesn't count, I vote for Fawlty Towers

Lots of other favorites, though-I'm with Belfast-Brit humor is way better, I grew up on PBS britcoms as well.

I believe Fawlty Towers is not only the funniest Britcom ever, but the funniest sitcom ever. I would have voted Vicar of Dibley as the second favorite on the list, but One Foot in the Grave was a close third. If Red Dwarf was listed, it would be near the top. I loved the characters on Vicar.

The Keeping Up Appearances character Hyacinth Bucket is a funny character, but I found her too annoying to enjoy watching. She seems to me to be (in one way) the ultimate NT. She was obsessed with doing ANYTHING necessary to be seen in a favorable light by society.

Darling! Darling?!

 Mummy, dear! :D

Father Ted episode where Father Dougal's milkfloat had a bomb on board. Upon getting off, the immortal words, "You forgot your brick, Ted!" I hope you know what I mean

Is it me, or are those in the list doubled up? The same thing twice?

From what I have seen of British television, I would move there just for it.
I'd have to cast my votes for Absolutely Fabulous, Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, and (I'm not sure if one could consider this a sitcom, but oh well) Jeeves and Wooster.

I think the poll options that WooYayHooplah provided are the same as the top 10 of the 'British Best Sitcom' vote that aired on the BBC about 3 or 4 years ago... Red Dwarf was somewhere around 25, I think.

But Blackadder and Red Dwarf are my two favourites... I like both for being satire, where one is aimed at the past and the other at the future (or rather sci-fi).

I haven't seen British comedy in a while now; around the time 'My Family' started airing, I felt as though it was in a slump, while American comedy was getting a bit sharper where once it had been either mushy or blunt.

I did enjoy 'Extras', with Ricky Gervais. And if you'd ask me what my favourite sketch show is, I would have to say 'Smack The Pony'. I thought 'Smack' was funnier than 'The Fast Show', which I also liked. 'Fast Show' was sometimes repetitive and pointlessly absurd; 'Smack The Pony' was smarter, and better-paced in my opinion. And the parodies of contemporary pop music videos and songs were spot on and a nice interlude in-between sketches.

My favorite UK shows would be "Red Dwarf" and "Vicar of Dibley".
However, I absolutely LOVE "Father Ted" and own the whole series on DVD.
Don't ever let an Irishman hear you confusing the Republic with England
And for the record, there are plenty of Irish who don't drink.

I havn't seen any of the other shows, but I think Fawlty Towers is a work of genious. There are only 12 episodes, but every one of them is brilliant.
