Family Guy is Bottom-Feeding Cultural Sewage
Personally, I don't watch Family Guy anymore unless it's somewhat unavoidable (ie, at someone's house or something.) I used to, but I didn't like the raunchiness and the very "liberal" agenda and values being pushed. So I stopped watching it.
Personally, I much prefer King of the Hill or Futurama. Both of those shows are a bit "deeper" and less raunchy, and even have, *gasp*, a story.
For some reason, I can even tolerate South Park much better than Family Guy, but I don't watch South Park often. I think in South Park though, it tries harder to actually explore a social issue rather than just throw mud at it like Family Guy does. Obviously South Park isn't perfect or anything, and neither South Park or Family Guy are like great wholesome Christian shows or anything like that, just I feel much more comfortable watching South Park.
I kinda think Seth McFarlane is like, a hater and a troll. He's got that smug smile (I know, I'm being an armchair internet psychologist), and just in general doesn't seem very happy of a guy. I think he projects that into his work.
I obviously like quite a few jokes from Family Guy, it's got some funny stuff for sure. That said, I don't plan to be watching it regularly like I used to, then again, I barely watch television anymore as it is, so it's kinda irrelevant.
In the end, everything in the world that's created by man is stupid. Predjudices, ideas, internet memes, religion, etc, everything is stupid.
As a satirical comedy, Family Guy takes the middle but liberal ground, and thus is free to make fun and ridicule anything that can possibly be ridiculed, in other words, everything. By showing the anti-semitic beliefs they're demonstrating how stupid that particular belief is by exaggerating it.
They in no way are exemplyfying anti-semitism, nor anti-gay, nothing. It's all one big joke, and I concede I don't like the bodily functions humor, but it all a JOKE. Except for the underlying theme or moral point, everything said is a JOKE. Humor, plain and simple. And they do it well.
Also: South Park is fantastic and much better than Family Guy in some ways, but they both have their merits and detractors, and if they make people laugh then they've done their job.
I agree with this whole post, except the south park bit, I don't like that show.
Family guy is one thing: Silly. And that's why it appeals to me over other garbage. I have a silly sense of humour.
And there is nothing wrong with that at all, one man's crap is another man's treasure. I just prefer South Park, because it still has the power to offend without being pretentious (IE Family Guy).

Why? Because its so stupid, simple and childish its funny to watch. You can turn of your brain and enjoy Family Guy! (And its aired when we`re having dinner)
^ I agree, I think some people only hate the show because they take it way too serously. They seem to think Seth has some sort of secret hatred for people he doesn't like and is out to get them, but they don't realize the show makes fun of everyone. Even the main characters on the show are treated as awful people, and Peter's negative attitudes towards certain people is to reflect his own ignorance and stupidity rather than the creators of the show.

I only like the first season or two the best. They are the most tolerable.
I agree that the first couple of seasons were the best. They definetly had the funniest jokes, and Stewie and Brian were much funnier when they were potrayed as an evil baby genius and an alchoholic talking pooch. Now Stewie is borderline homosexual and Brian is a cynic who thinks he's smarter than everyone. At least the other 4 characters seemed to be kept the same.
One place where Family Guy consistently drops the ball is religion. The Simpson's make some truly inspired jokes about religion, where Family Guy just has the same old God is a dirty old man joke. On the Simpsons, I gather some of the writers have some background in theology, and they can use that to make some funny stuff.
"By the 7 arms of Visnu, I swear it. I am not a Hindu." - Apu:
"I’m no theologian. I don’t know who or what God is. All I know is he’s more powerful than Mom and Dad put together." - Lisa
"Suppose we’ve chosen the wrong god. Every time we go to church we’re just making him madder and madder." _ Homer
Sign in front of church: "Rapture Alert Level - Orange"
"It's a good thing Buddha teaches freedom from desire, because I've got the desire to kick your ass." - Richard Gere on The Simpsons
"Do not offer my God a peanut!" - Apu to Homer, when his friend tries to feed Ganeesha, depicted as an elephant.

That's probably because the creator of the show is athiest and he's not afraid to openly show it. With The Simpsons I get the feeling the creator of the show is somewhat religous or at least spiritual, especially when regarding Lisa's character who's views seem to somewhat reflect his own.
I don't have any problems with Seth's views of religion and athiesm. He actually brings up some good points about why religion sometimes does more harm than good which you can't deny is a fact.

Except the show is supposed to be funny, they constantly drop the ball on religious jokes, like they don't even try. The jokes around Apu's and Ned's beliefs are often very funny.

I don't think all their religion jokes are that bad. Like this one where Peter said "That's more beautiful than a suicide bomber being greeted at the gates of heaven by 72 virgins" and it showed a suicide bomber arriving at heaven and being greeted by 72 male computer geeks asking him if he wanted to play Dungeons & Dragons. I thought that was pretty funny.

Yes, that was funny, and the suicide bomber that just didn't understand he would not be coming back was funny too.

Yeah that was pretty funny too. Though I'm not sure these are religous jokes as much as they are jokes on the al qaeda.
There is another sort-of religous joke I remember in the episode "When You Wish Apon a Weinstein" when the family invites a Jewish guy over for dinner and he tells Luis he can't eat anymore of the food. She says "Of course because it's not kosher" and he looks at his plate and says "Um yeah, lets go with that". I thought that was pretty funny without being overly offensive.
