Moulin Rouge!

Has little to do with the 1952 movie. A poet falls for a courtesan whom a jealous duke covets at the Moulin Rouge.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past

Great movie! I was giddy with glee for most of the movie. The movie not only had great fight scenes, but also had a surprising amount of humor.

Snowpiercer.

Notice that the head bodyguard looks exactly like Christopher Hitchens.

Godzilla 3D.

Great fun. I thought it struck the perfect balance between serious and stupid. I now look forward with childish glee to whatever Gareth Edwards turns his hand to next.

King of Monsters!

Flyboys

Historically inaccurate account of the Lafayette Escadrille, young Americans who volunteered for the French military before the U.S. entered World War I and became America's first fighter pilots.

Finally watched Frozen last night. It was ok but as fantastic as people made it out to be and I was surprised how sexualized it was.

The Quiet Man

John Wayne plays a retired American boxer returns to the village in Ireland where he was born. He finds love, but her brother stands in the way.

I remember reading the story the movie was based on back in college.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

After the events of 1962 and all that transpired in the ensuing years, mutants are now on the verge of extinction due to the Sentinels, unstoppable robots that have the power to mimic and adapt to any mutant power. In order to prevent this from happening, Wolverine's consciousness is projected back in time to 1973 in order to prevent Mystique from murdering Bolivar Trask, the creator behind the Sentinel program. He must now convince the younger versions of Professor X and Magneto to change the course of history for mutants before it's too late.

In short: Absolutely fantastic. Watch out for the post-credits, we all know who the big bad is next.....

The Great Gatsby.

Second time I've mentioned seeing this movie, but it's a worthwhile retelling of the book. Seeing it for the second time, I was able to appreciate how Nick Caraway's happy memories of New York and his time with Gatsby are presented in bright, expressionistic imagery and happier than they probably were, while after Gatsby's death, New York is a city of dark grays, perhaps worst in memory than it had been in life. And this time, Nick's introspective narration more than once had brought me close to tears, especially when remembering Gatsby, now gone, with the line, "Gatsby believed in the green light (see the movie or read the book to understand what that means)." The fact that this man (Gatsby) had built a world of wealth and excitement only to regain the love of a vacuous, shallow woman (Daisy Buchanan) he had barely known five years before, and who in reality was hardly worthy of him, had hit me like a ton of bricks. Exceptional performances by Tobey McGuire as Nick Caraway, and Leonardo DiCaprio as James Gatz, aka Jay Gatsby.

Finding Forrester.
Sean Connery is amazing in this. He plays someone kind of based on JD Salinger.
