So-so slasher flick about a couple inviting friends over to their new house in the country for a party - when they disturb the insane woman dressed as a Clive Barker Cenobite in the deserted house nearby. Mass gory murder and second rate S&M ensue.
Spoiler - no survivor girl; everyone dies. That is unless you count the she-maniac as the survivor girl.

Maleficent

Live-action remake of Sleeping Beauty, except this depicts the title character as more of an antihero than a straightforward villian. Angelina Jolie is fantastic as the title character and despite some flaws in the storyline, the movie was worth the ticket. However, this movie can be seen as a metaphor for redemption, meaning that if one does something horribly wrong, only that person can correct his/her mistake.

American Beauty

Kevin Spacey plays a middle-aged father going through a midlife crisis who has a sudden change in his life when he falls for his daughter's beautiful, but vain friend.

A Letter to Momo

A 2011/2012 Production I.G. film by Hiroyuki Okiura. Young Momo and her mother move away from Tokyo to begin their new lives on a remote island called Shio. Momo doesn't take well to the new circumstances, as she is still greiving over the loss of her father --- whose final memento to her was an unfinished letter with only "Dear Momo," written. Shortly afterwards, Momo starts hearing strange noises in the house and it seems food and certain items are disappearing. It turns out to be the work of three impish youkai (otherworldly spirits) and from there, Momo begins an odd love-hate relationship with them, whilst trying to figure out what it was her late father tried to tell her.

A beautifully animated film which can rival Studio Ghibli. I was a little reminded of Natsume Yuujinchou as Momo juggles her everyday life with the slightly supernatural aspects to follow, with some funny consequences to boot. Whilst a little long, I totally recommend it, especially as GKids have now picked up the rights to have it in the US.
