An episode of 'Hitler's Henchmen', a series made by ZDF, a German TV channel. This was about Baldur Von Schirach, founder of the Hitler Youth and Governor of Vienna during World War 2. Interesting.

Tales of the Unexpected

An episode from the second series (1980) called 'Georgy Porgy'. Good grief, you have to wonder about Roald Dahl's state of mind when you watch stuff like this. A young vicar (played by John Alderton) is seduced by one of his parishioners (Joan Collins), but it all goes disastrously wrong when he attempts to strangle her, apparently caused by a traumatic incident in his childhood when he saw a mother rabbit eat one of its own offspring.

Collins also plays Alderton's mother in the flashbacks to his boyhood, which is probably meant to be significant.

The Protectors (1972)

An episode called 'King Con'. The Protectors dream up two devilishly clever plans to exact revenge on a swindler who has robbed a friend of the Contessa of a 12th Century icon worth £60,000 (not far short of £1 million in today's money). This is pretty ludicrous stuff, but the episode is visually impressive if nothing else, with scenes set in Prague (which looks anything but a drab communist-era city) and at Royal Ascot in the UK.

Tales of the Unexpected (1980)

An episode called 'Depart In Peace' starring Joseph Cotten and Gloria Grahame. I'm not even going to bother describing this - the plot is ridiculous and the ending is unbelievably naff. A lot of these episodes are pretty dire, I do hope they'll improve soon....(only about 100 more to watch in the boxset).

first few episodes. beautiful animation/art, character designs, complex characterization, etc aside, giant robots AND gay women?! the pinnacle of fiction!

Black Books (2000)

The third and fourth episodes from the first series. Not really my kind of thing, but a few decent laughs!

Tales of the Unexpected

An episode called 'The Umbrella Man' from 1980. A conman, played by John Mills, swindles a woman (Hilary Dwyer) out of a small sum of money, but in doing so inadvertently breaks up both her marriage and her relationship with her lover. Quite a clever plot I suppose, but all the same very contrived and unconvincing. I had to watch the last few minutes again to work out what actually happened.

Hilary Dwyer looks quite nice in this, but I was surprised to find that she would only have been 34 at the time - she looks more like early 40s.
