The film might raise questions about how much we use news, to entertain ourselves, and how much as a society we demand news to be entertaining.

Yes, and I felt that the film was almost, um, blatantly beguiling in a way that wanted us to be entertained by Bloom, even though his actions were abhorrent.

Yes i agree, Jake can be quite a charismatic screen presence, so thats probably part of it. As far being entertained by Bloom, i know i have been guilty of entertaining myself with the odd terrible news story, you could argue he at least never tried to hide his abhorrent actions and pretend that it is something else. There is something quite attractive about seeing your flaws laid out in another person, even if they seem exaggerated or enhanced. He reminded me a bit of Travis in taxi driver, part of a dark seeming corner of ones psyche, exaggerated and examined.

Watched this movie 'JeruZalem' which is sort of a zombie movie

I thought it was pretty interesting and original, kinda cheesy and stupid but whatever I wasn't expecting it to be.

The Shallows.

Blake Lively plays a young woman who visits the beach in Mexico where her recently deceased mother had been to years before, and does some surfing in this psychological horror film. Because she's left there alone without her friend accompanying her, she finds herself at the mercy of one pissed off Great White after accidentally coming upon a dead whale it had been feeding on. Bitten, and too far away from the shore, her only hope is to reach a tiny island left visible when the tide goes out for the night. It's a battle between her and the shark, the rising tide, and her own injuries and blood loss. Pretty intense movie. Highly recommended. That, and Blake Lively looks hot in a bikini!

I actually saw that the other day, i didn't know who Blake was. There was a lot of 'the male gaze' going on in that film, and the phone on screen thing was quite cheap. I have a thing for shark movies at the moment, and that one wasn't the worst. The effect were really good, and made up about 95% of the credits. Also natural whale oil doesn't catch fire, i googled it :p

So in other words, the flare would have just gone out in the water, and Blake would have been eaten alive. :skull:

Zootopia, seen on Netflix. I didn't see the big deal about this film.
