LOST ends tonight...
And I just wanna give my praise to this amazing show.
As a teenager during the turn of the century I hardly watched ANY TV because I felt most of it was pointless garbage. But apparently I was still too immature to get any of it...shows like XFiles, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Friends, etc were shows targeted toward my generation and I was supposed to enjoy. I watched these shows on occasion but never got obsessed with them...I never really cared for them.
And then when I was in college I saw a TV commercial for an ABC show about people in a plane crash on a creepy island. For some reason I thought that Lost was a miniseries because the idea of a television series dealing with attractive looking adults surviving a plane crash and living on a deserted island sounded too absurd by television standards...that I was interested in watching it.
Well lo' and behold I go on the net to learn more about the show and find out it's a real television series with a huge diverse cast that's almost stereotypical (in an absurd way) that it made me want to watch it even more. I swore that this show might become like a "so bad it's good" type of thing like The Secret Life of the American Teenager is now.
I was going to totally be proven wrong.
The first 10 minutes of the first episode are gut wrenching. I don't think any movie has ever portrayed the aftermath of a plane crash with such terrifying intensity like Lost did. Proof enough for me that this wasn't going to be some absurbed series but a high quality drama dealing with the deep intense struggle of humans of all personalities to survive what seems unsurvivable.
Cause let's face it: from day one the premise screamed that lots of character deaths were gonna happen.
This show was more than just a horror/survival show...it was a people drama. There are hundreds of people dramas on TV that have come and past long before Lost began but I never care for them. For some reason however I was finally able to come and appreciate people and relationships portrayed on television and it is all because of Lost. When you're stuck on a deserted island getting along with other people is very important.
But what's more is that we learned how unhappy these survivors were with their lives before this horrible crash happened. Learning about these characters pasts I believe helped carry the supernatural/horror element of the show along because it really got you thinking...would you rather be back in civilization alive and well but miserable or would you rather be in a place where you could die at anytime and be somewhat fulfilled?
This show is both twisted and mesmerizing.
I will miss Lost deeply because it got me watching TV again. It got me believing that you don't have to have episode after episode of people drama that's flat out boring. You can tell very unique and amazing stories that still relate to people. Lost put me on the path to where I want to go with my life even though it's questionable that I will ever get there. I want to become a TV writer. I want to become a storyteller that can still tell stories that people can relate to without it just being drivel. I began studying and studying more of today's (and sometimes yesterday's) hit shows and I've learned so much about relationships and storytelling from every program I watch.
So anyway thank you Lost. You've become an insane geek phenomenon, but to me you became so much more. And you will be missed.
Thankfully inspired by Lost, I was able to find other fantastic shows to fill the void once this amazing show is gone. I will continue to be inspired to observe these shows in the same way I did for Lost.
Thank you.

Yeah, I'm gonna miss Lost all right. The only other drama series that has ever captivated me was Terminator SCC, and that got canceled last year. Now I'll have nothing to watch as nothing can compare to Lost or Terminator. In today's tv shows, either something is cliche, uninteresting, or badly written and or acted out.

Yeah, I wanted a more in depth explanation about the energy under the island, how the smoke monster came to be, and what exactly was the connection with ancient Egypt? I think it needed at least 3 or 4 more episodes to get all of that in before it wrapped up. Ah well, still have the alternate endings later, maybe one of them will at least be a more fullfilling than just saying.
*spoilers*

You could always turn off the television. That's what I did back in November 2008, and I haven't regretted it since.
