Big Bang Theory is the one show that we as a family will sit down and watch (like people used to watch television, as a family, in the olden times . . . .)
I think it's a highly hilarious and entertaining show. Some of the people in the article/forum/question and answer session that you provided a link were upset because of the "nerdiness" factor. I guess I'm amazed by that. The nerdiness factor, the physics jokes, etc. are what make the show wonderful. I'm not necessarily a nerd (although I aspire to become one some day), but my husband and the rest of my family certainly are, and I've spent years observing my husband with friends and work-mates -- and the jokes on the show are SO MUCH like what I've seen he and his friends do. Absolutely wonderful stuff. I've watched Jim Parsons (Sheldon) interviewed a number of times, and apparently they have a "resident" physicist on site to make sure the science is correct but also to make sure the jokes are true to what science nerds would say.
The part of the show that I've been enjoying so much lately is the relationship between Penny and Sheldon. The juxtopisition of their personalities, and yet how they manage to get along, is the thing that makes the show for me. Totally magic.
