Was Zoe Heriot an Aspie?

I'm a big fan of the classic Doctor Who shows from the 1960's and while I was podering on the show for the upteeth time a thought came to me.....

Was Zoe Heriot, (Played by the the lovely Wendy Padbury) who travled with the 2nd Doctor and Jamie an Aspie?

From where I stand I think she was!! !

Although this was not spelled out in the show, as in her opening adventure this was put down to the school system of her (and also ours!) time, she coud still have AS anyway.

Zoe also appers in many, many spin off meda but as they aren't TV advenures I'm not going to list them here as some fans will just argue about whether or not they are to be considered 'canon'

Of course it is well known to many that Wendy Padbury also appered with Antony Antoeny (the 1980's Master) in the 1970 Hammer horror film Blood on Satan's Claw and in the stage play Doctor Who and the Daleks in the Seven Keys to Doomsday Here she played another charcter by the name of Jenny alongside Trever Martin (as the Doctor)

This play has been dramatised by Big Finsh produtions and the rule of Jenny was played by her doughter (who's name exapes me at the moment)

Anyway about the charter of Zoe. Think about it..

She's pattie.

She's smart.

She dress haphasedly (although this may just be becouse it was the 1960's)

She's very derect with her apporch to others.

If they are any other sytoums that you can think of then feel free to tell me.

P.S. I went to an Aspie only disco last week and I met a girl dressed in a glitery cat suit,

She was indeed much prittyer than a Computer!! !!

No, she just sounds weird. Also, you need to work on your spelling.

I'm not going to get all angery (as we all are enitled to our own views and after all she's only a fictional caracter from a kids SF show) But I'll if you don't mind stand by my view as it's not only a view that I have but also when I showed a few friends (who are also spaort workers but as I get along with them very well, we also can be said to be friends anyway) her on a DVD they agreed with me.

On top of that I once knew a girl in her 20's with AS who often acted a lot like her, (no she was not a Doctor Who fan so she was not mimicing her)

As it happens I also know a few girls with AS now who are a LOT like Zoe!! !!

I'm sorry if my spelling was a little poor, but sometimes I have to hurry as I've got other things to do.

Don't worry no ofence was taken as spelling (unlike reading) was not always my stronget point (it's a long story)

The reason why I put up this post was (apart from a subject of discussion) because I felt that while we Aspie men have pleaty of male Heroes to look up to Aspie females (seemly) don't.

Zoe therefore should be the spockeswoman for Aspie female fans (of Doctor Who) as they'd have no truoble in idenfing with her

Natraly the writers of Doctor Who did not set out to write Zoe as an 'AS Companion' (as it was the 1960's) however if she were real and the TARDIS (provided the Second Doctor Jamie and Zoe were on bourd) landed in our time she could be diegnosned with AS if she was put forward for one.

I only wanted to put forward my views, don't worry I wasn't offened by yours, but I'm adding this in order to make mine a little clearer.

I know plenty of girls who sound like her who don't have Asperger's. Quirky =! Asperger's.

Actually, I do agree with boosterjones. In her initial appearance, at least, Zoe does have elements of being an Aspie. One of the first thing she does upon meeting Jamie McCrimmon (who is a young Scottish warrior who survived the aftermath of Culloden) is laugh at him for wearing 'female garments'. Jamie, of course, is wearing a kilt (and Zoe, at the time, is not wearing a skirt but a jumpsuit), and he corrects her mistake, although it takes her a while to identify him as Scottish (she thinks of Scandinavia first, and claims that 'pre-century history' is not her specialty). Annoyed, Jamie threatens to put her across his knee "and larrup you."

There's a later sequence, in the next episode of The Wheel in Space, where Zoe is telling two of her comrades in the crew about calculations regarding a meteorite storm soon to hit the Wheel while their main defence, an x-ray laser, is not functioning...



That being said, Zoe's difficulty in showing her empathy (although she is better at showing it in later stories) is probably not due to Asperger's, because there is later talk that she underwent strict training, not unlike those for Mentats in Dune, when she sees Dr Gemma Corwyn, the second in command of the Wheel and the medical officer:



So, she might be an Aspie, but it might also be due to her training.

After all who's knows if AS (sometimes) is coursed nowdays by the way kids are thaort at school?

Also there is the fact that often kids with AS DO not submit to the ways (bar learning) imposed on them by school techers (I've know a few that did, myself inculded)

In my mind when I think about it more and more I can imagene that when Zoe was a little girl she would have been often in truobe with her techers, not for getting into mischef (as Zoe wouldn't do that) but for the kind of stuff that many brighter kids with AS will have done (ie correcting the teachers and the like)

Although it's clear that she was top of her class in acadmic subjects her realsionship with her (at least some of) theachers (as indketed by the refernce to her resiting there "brain washing techniques" by going round being stubben to them, hence she'd have got a LOT of detenchen)
I'm sure that many of us will know what school must have been like for her!

Anyway I was back at that Aspie only disco last night and I'm sure that I saw a girl blow one of the Computers up in the managers office.

Zoe didn't get into mischief? Well, in The Invasion, just out of pique, she reprograms a computerised answering machine to blow itself up just because it wouldn't give her a straight answer.

OK I'll admit I got that a little wrong.

However what I meant was that when she was at school she would NOT go round beating up the other kids and tossing ink pelits at her thechers (and the other things that kids sometimes get up to at school) just for the fun of it.

Also I was refering to what I reacon what she may have been like as a child (i.e. a swot!)

Probably not a delinquent, but she wasn't completely without fun. She enjoyed the adventures of the Karkus superhero in the Hourly Telepress (would that be some sort of weblog, in hindsight, with a webcomic?), and seemed to know just enough martial arts (or at least in the Land of Fiction) to kick the Karkus' musclebound derriere. And she enjoyed doing a bit of modelling work for Isabel Watkins.

I'm a bit of a Doctor Who 'nut' I as it happens I once went to a party dressed up as her as I happen to look a lot like her (save the fact that I have ginger hair, so I had to dye it black)

Yes I can see the points that 'boosterjones' and 'Quatermass' have given as she does seem to have AS although I never really thought of it up until now
