there's one particular scene in the Dark Knight I admit I never fully understood, and maybe someone here could shed some light on it for me( Jamesy, sorry, you're excluded from this):

that scene where he fires bullets into those four blocks of cement to get the Joker's fingerprint from the bullet; why did he fire bullets into four different slabs? How exactly was that gonna get the fingerprint information?

There might have been a few other moments I found somewhat confusing, but I still think it's one of the greatest movies ever made, and I so can't wait for Batman 3.

BTW, I came to realize something about that scene at the beginning with the bank robbery: is it possible that the guy running the bank who's mouth Joker stuck gas into turns out to be the Creeper at some point, since Joker did in fact say "what doesn't kill you makes you crazier"?

My guess is probably the impact of the bullet into the slabs of cement, then again i might be wrong.

I too am excited about Batman 3, will Batman redeem himself? We shall see... :D

What I want to know is why it was necessary for Batman to take the blame for all the people two-face killed and Harvey's "death".

It could have easily been blamed on the joker, or one of the joker's minions. Plus, as Two-Face would still exist, they could've claimed Two-Face was a crazy guy who thought he was Harvey Dent, scarred himself to look like him, and then killed Harvey to replace him. A little round-about but an option.

They could even have blamed the deaths on vengeful mobsters.

There was no reason for batman to take the fall.

Kinda hard to blame Harvey Dent's death by falling on the Joker, who was hanging upside down from the Port building when it happened. THen there's the fact that the building was already surrounded by cops...who had been there for quite some time...there's no way you could blame the hostage situation with Gordon's family on the Joker, or his minions, who were confirmed to be in another location. You couldn't sneak any minion bodies in there either, because...you know...it's surrounded by cops. The reason you can't blame any of those crimes on the Joker is that he was doing a bunch of *other* bad stuff at the same time, and he's really, really noticeable. Batman was also somewhere else, but you generally don't see Batman, so you can't confirm that he wasn't at that bar, killing the crooked cop.

To answer the question about the cement I too am unsure. Maybe Batman was trying to figure out what type of gun Joker was using or something. Also the reason he took the blame for those murders is because he was trying to save Harvey's reputation. If the people found out what he did then those people who were put away would have been released. Plus Batman would not have put the blame on someone else like the Joker because it would be wrong no matter what people like the Joker do. I know that sounds silly.

Also there was a certain number of people killed in the movie. I can't remember how many and some were killed off screen I think. Could someone tell me how many were killed :?: Who were killed :?: and who killed each of them :?:

maybe the script can help you:

INT. BAT-BUNKER -- DAY
Wayne hands Alfred a RIFLE BULLET scribed with a GRID. He
slots it into a clip, then loads it into a COMPUTER
CONTROLLED GATTLING GUN. He puts on ear protectors. Hits a
button.
The rifle WHIRS to life- dollying sideways, BLASTING BULLETS
into a series of identical BRICK WALL SAMPLES.
ALFRED
I'm not sure you made it loud enough,
sir.
As the wall samples still smoke, Wayne steps up, carrying the
sample from the crime scene. Comparing its spread to the new
samples, he selects two and carries them to an X-RAY SCANNER.
The machine gives the samples a 3-axis scan- HI-RES 3-D
IMAGES of the bullet fragment arrays come up on the screen...
INT. APPLIED SCIENCES DIVISION -- DAY
The same image of the bullet fragment on a screen. Fox hits
a key and the computer 'reassembles' the bullets according to
the identifying grid on each fragment.
FOX
Here's your original scan...

REESE (cont'd)
A bullet fragment array pops on screen.
FOX
Here's it reverse-engineered...
Fox hits a button and the unmarked bullet fragments are
reassembled. Wayne spins the roughly-shaped bullet puzzle-
WAYNE
And here's a thumb print.
Fox looks at the screen, impressed. Thinks.
FOX
I'll make you a copy.
(troubled)
Mr.Wayne, did you reassign R and D?
WAYNE
Yes. Government telecommunications
project.
FOX
I wasn't aware we had any new
government contracts. Can you-
WAYNE
Lucius. I'm playing this one pretty
close to the chest.
FOX
Fair enough.
Fox looks at Wayne as he leaves. Uneasy.
INT. BAT-BUNKER -- CONTINUOUS -- INTERCUT
Wayne examines the fingerprint-
WAYNE
I've run it through all the databases
and came up with four possibles.
Wayne gets up to let Alfred sit.
WAYNE (CONT’D)
Cross-reference the addresses.
Look for Parkside and around.
Wayne opens a HYDRAULIC DOOR, revealing a gleaming MV AUGUSTA
BRUTALE. As he moves the bike onto the lift...
ALFRED
Got one. Melvin White, aggravated
assault, moved to Arkham twice- 1502
Randolph Apartments, just off State-

Overlooking the parade.

i think he used more than 1 slab so they couldn't get different pieces of 2 bullets mixed together cuz then it would be basically impossible to get a good print
