For those of you hardcore of fans of the slashing sandman like I am, here are the films that will range from best to worst in this countdown called Ranking the....

FREDDY KREUGER FILMS:

ESSENTIAL:

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)--The one that started it all and is considered the scariest and the best of the series.

Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors--Obviously the best Freddy sequel of all-time and it's somewhat the funniest of the bunch too.

Freddy vs. Jason--The best match-up of horror icons of all-time although I think Freddy really won that match.

GREAT:

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare--The final somewhat swan song (not really) of the child killer himself which is the best sequel since the third film.

Wes Craven's New Nightmare--This is one of the most interesting movie within a movie films of all-time with the Heather Laugenkamp, Wes Craven, Robert Shaye, and Robert Englund play themselves.

Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master--Out of all the Freddy films, this is one is the most underrated film of the series.

OKAY:

Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child--It has its moments but it's a little too long to be a Freddy film.

SKIP:

Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge--The less said about this film...the better!

P.S. I haven't included the 2010 remake with Kelly Leak as Freddy because I haven't seen it yet. I will watch it next week when I get it from the library.

Nightmare 2 is super gay. Not in a pejorative way. It really has gay themes and starred a gay actor. I remember watching it when it first came out and thinking, "They made this movie just for little gay horror buffs like me! Just like Fright Night!"

Interesting article about it here:
The Gayness of Nightmare on Elm Street 2
