This was on an obscure channel in the UK last night and I watched it for the first time (with adverts though which was annoying). I had no idea how good this film was! Loved the cinematography, the set/costume design, direction, acting, story and music. But I'm not sure if I could watch it again anytime soon because it really, really got to me. Have any of you ever watched a film that you really liked but you connected with so intensely that you're almost wary of watching again? I cried for about 2 hours after it finished.

Other films that I've really connected with are:

Fight Club
The Science of Sleep
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (pretty much all Michel Gondry films really)

I had a break of 6 years between the first and second times I watched Fight Club, it got to me that much

How about:
The Baader Meinhof Complex (German language with sub-titles)
The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover

Both very good but disturbing.

I've only seen Trainspotting once, it upset me so much that even though I was intently into it while it was playing I could never watch it again. The poor baby was what really tore me up.

Se7en is a film I'll never watch again, though I believe it's an excellent film. The horrible murders were so graphically portrayed that I couldn't get them out of my mind for months.

V for Vendetta I've watched twice now... I read the graphic novel too. Remarkable in either media.

The Dead Zone, not the tv series, the original movie. I just loved the portrayal of the lead character, and I cried my eyes out at the end.

I can't watch Finding Neverland anymore even though it's a beautiful film and Johnny Depp does a good job in it. It makes me cry because someone's mom dies in it. It just reminds me that one day my own mom will die, and that's a really depressing thought.

Gnoloo - I haven't seen either of those films but I've heard about The Cook, the Thief His Wife & Her Lover and thought it might be bit too intense, which is why I've avoided it for now. Is it worth giving it a go?

mgran - Yeah, Trainspotting kinda freaked me out for the same reason as you - that baby was truly creepy. I've got the soundtrack though and still listen to that. Se7en is another great film that I've only seen once all the way through and then after that, selected bits because some of the murders are too much.

Idahorose - I can't remember much of Finding Neverland as it was a few years ago when I watched it but I do remember crying a lot at the end too. I think the films that affect me the most are those that believably portray a sense that the truly fantastic can occur in mundane, everyday life.

Well for emotion I will say Grave of the Fireflies, very emotionally charged, was a great watch and I fear watching it again and end up breaking down in tears like the first time.

The movie that concludes the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series, called 'The End Of Evangelion'. It's not that I connected to it lots, but it is very, very intense... and everytime I finish watching the series and think to myself "It's that time again, I better go watch End of Eva for closure", I hesitate... because the movie completely tears the show's main characters apart.
