Does anyone watch the show Monk? I stumbled upon it a few years ago and ive been in love with it mainly because I can relate to Monk on certain levels. Im not OCD but Monks need for routine and order as well as his awkward social skills allows me to empathize with him a lot. I also feel like the way other other characters interact with him is somewhat similar as to how my friends and family interact with me. The other chars are aware of how Monks OCD and phobias affect him and make accommodations for him .My friends and fam are the same way, they all like me but they have to switch into 'talking to mike' mode where they all kind of talk to me in ways that I can understand their NT logic and ways and learned to be able to understand what im getting at when I converse.

I liked the first couple of seasons of Monk very much, but I kind of lost interest when Sharona left the show. The same thing happened for me with Numb3rs after Diane Farr left.

I can certainly understand why you would relate to Monk. I don't, both because I'm such a slob and because of his attachment to his wife, which is completely different from the way I relate to people. But the things you say make a lot of sense.

I love Monk too!

I was sad when sharona left and more sad when the dr died.

I relate to Monk and have a lot of his funny ways. I think its interesting how everyone gets annoyed with him even though he is very good at his job. I also thought it was interesting when he got cured but was just as annoying but disinhibited.

I have to buy series 7 on dvd, it should have come down in price by now.

I love Monk. Actually, I prefer Natalie, his new assistant, since she seems to respect him more (she calls him "Mr Monk") and she's not as sarcastic or cruel. She also seems to be less codependent with him, which must be an improvement, and all round she's a nicer sweeter person. I love how she protects him in "Mr Monk is on the Run."

Apart from the extreme OCD I do relate to him... I alienate a lot of people in similar ways to him... people think I'm being condescending, or trying to put them down by appearing too clever. I asked my son do I seem like a snob, and he said, "you can't help it, neither can I."

I see it when my son does it, and he sees it when I do it... but we still can't help ourselves. If someone asks a question we'll answer precisely and in too much detail. Monk does that too. I love him.

oh no, I hate natalie! She is so twee and wimsy and so patronising. I thought I didnt like sharona as she is so brash and slu*ty but when they brought in natalie I thought "come back sharona all is forgiven!"

Really? I liked Natalie a lot more than Sharona-Sharona was too loud, too east coast (not my kind of mentality) and talked down to Monk sometimes. Natalie is much nicer and treats Monk like an equal, or at least a friend who has needs. I liked the Dr a lot too, he could have been more involved but I understand that he had to maintain that Doc-patient relationship that we all have with ours...haha, how funny.

If this is true for the LOVE OF GOD no one tell me who it was! I've not seen all of them up to date yet!

I too was sad when Dr Kroeger died, however the actor who played him died therefore they had to write the character out. I wasn't sad when Sharona left but that's probably because I started watching the later series before the first ones and got used to Natalie first. I prefer Natalie myself because she mothers Monk, although I liked the episode where Sharona reveales her fear of elephants and Monk just says, 'suck it up!' It was hilarious! I think Monk is based a bit on an aspie but I don't know. A lot seems to fit!

I enjoyed that show. My friends frequently compared me to him, since I notice ridiculously small details and have somewhat severe OCD (i.e. I refuse to go up or down stairs I know to have uneven steps, start organizing things in stores in symmetric patterns when left to my own devices, etc.).

SPOILER

It was the judge played by Craig T. Nelson. The judge had had an affair and illegitimate love-child with her before she met Monk, and killed her because she was going to go public with it when she found out the child was still alive, when he had told her it had died when it was born.

They have it on Hulu.com, and I was going to link you to it, but I guess like all sites of the kind they have some things for paying customers only (guess I can't blame them) so you have to do a 1-week trial or pay to see it. But they are all there.
