How I sometimes watch films and tv shows.

When it comes to watching movies and shows on DVD I just pick out the films and episode(s) I choose, but sometimes I like to watch an entire movie saga like say all the Star Wars movies in release order or chronicle and sometimes watch the mini Clone Wars series with it or not at all. I have the first 2 seasons of the CGI series on DVD and the movie pilot but have not watched them alongside the movies and 2d series yet. I could never do this all in one day though. I have every episode and movie of the Star Trek franchise and I said to myself that I was gonna watch everyone in chronicle order but then said to myself that it's too much to handle. So I decided to start watching themed episodes and movies in chronicle order and I chose Time Travel. I got the idea when I was on wikipedia. Basically you type in a time travel episode and at the very bottom is a list of every time travel episode and movie of each Star Trek. I plan to do this with other themed episodes e.g. Holodeck, Q, Ferengi because there kinda funny. But it's not just Star Trek, I do this with other things like say The Simpsons when I onced watched all the Sideshow Bob episodes I had or the Christmas episodes. Also when a new movie sequel comes out like say Transformers Dark of the Moon, I would watch the ones before it just before I see it in the cinema and when Thor and Captain America The First Avenger comes out on DVD I will watch them along side the Iron Man movies and The Incredible Hulk in release order and chronicle order. I know some of you may think it's kinda dumb and pathetic and makes me sound like a big loser nerd, but thats just me.

I like to be familiar with a sequel's predecessors before watching it, but it's not usually necessary. There are exceptions, of course. You really can't watch the Star Wars movies in chronological order and know what the hell is going on in the prequels, since all the exposition is in Episode IV.

Have you noticed that in Captain America First Avenger, the civilian weapons builder that worked with the army his name was Stark? Just like in Iron Man? Is that Iron Man's father? Or pure coincidence?

I like to watch movies like that as well. This week I have been watching all of the Planet of the Apes movies in preperation for Rise of Planet of the Apes. Even though alot of those Planet of the Apes movies stunk I still like to watch through them in order.

The Phantom Menace I will admit is a bad movie but still watchable and everytime I watch Star Wars I will always watch Phantom Menace to go with it because you kinda have too. With some other movie franchises you can skip one bad sequel and go to the good one like the Star Trek movies. The Motion Picture is boring so you can just skip to Wrath of Khan as it is considered the best one and you don't have to watch The Motion Picture to understand Wrath of Khan. The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home complete what is called the Genesis Trilogy so they should be watched as well, but this is not a demand.

If you're already a huge Star Trek fan then you can watch any episode or movie you want even if your suppose to watch another movie or episode before it. I'm currently in the middle of watching every time travel movie and episode of Star Trek just for fun. I started yesterday with 6 time travel episodes of Enterprise and today continued with the last 5 and 5 episodes of the Original Series, 1 episode of the Animated Series and I will continue with the others for example I will watch The Voyage Home without watching the other two films. I know that sounds kinda dumb and wasteful and perhaps lazy but hey thats just the Trekkie in me.

Anyway back to the Trek films. The Final Frontier should be avoided since it serves no importance and skip right to The Undiscovered Country as it is both a good movie and the last to feature the original crew. Generations may not be perfect but still good and should probably watched as it does kinda lead up to First Contact with the whole thing with Data's emotion chip and the descruction of the Enterprise D. First Contact obviously watch and Insurrection maybe, maybe not. The only thing to know about Insurrection to lead up to Nemesis is that Riker and Troi get back together and married, which was kinda strange and quick especially after 7 seasons and 2 movies. Nemesis should be watched as it is the last film for the Next Generation crew and in the Star Trek canon. Sure there were more episodes of Enterprise but thats a prequel and chronically Nemesis is the last of the Star Trek canon. J.J. Abrams movie, which is set in an alternate timeline is definately worth checking and I can't wait for the sequel.
