Why haven't my friends been given stuff and gotten national attention for hanging out with me?
Because you aren't a young, possibly future sport's star who is considered "gorgeous."

I mean that really was the most condescending thing! The kids weren't acting like that but the adults were acting like Zach had made such a huge sacrifice to be friends with Graham. Both the kids looked like they thought the entire idea of the segment was silly, but went along with it probably cause their mother's made them do it. Zach's mom wrote the letter and she was probably trying to get some attention on her son because of the sports scholarship. I don't know. Maybe she did it for that reason.
I disagree that this was the most condescending thing. Kathy Lee's "big guy" comment and the fact that they were talking about Graham as if he weren't in the room, IMO is the worst thing. Had it been me, I would have called her on it.
I do agree that Zach's mom is part of the problem. These people act like it is an heroic act to be friends with one of us.

That has to be probably really humiliating to have a song written about you, and sung to you, on national tv about how you are so pitiful and alone and somebody else is so nice as to put up with you and give you a chance to have a friend.
Agreed. Not only that, but the song really sucked... It sounds like something that autism speaks would put out as a theme song.

That kind of thing doesn't really help with the public's image of AS.
So much so that even howard stern wigged out about it.

Zach looked embarrassed about being singled out for simply being friends with somebody.
As a film maker, I can tell you, when they cut away from the boys, they were trying to avoid something being shown... Most likely, it was Zach getting angry on his friend's behalf. At least it should have been... but both boys showed the physiological signs of being angry
