Does anyone else really wish that Tom Brokaw had never gotten old and retired years ago? Brian Williams is just no Tom, in my book.

six or one half dozen of the other. but i much prefer brokaw's midwestern booth announcer's baritone to williams' new jersey sportscaster-esque tenor.

Sportcaster-esque is a good way to put Brian Williams's way of talking. I could not think of a way. I DID love Tom's voice, but think he had more insight and way of putting "himself" into the broadcast in a good way. Tom was a class act.

I dunno, I just never warmed to Tom Brokaw, not slick enough, I guess. Brian Williams doesn't have that problem. If I were to rate them for depth of character, though, Brokaw would win.

Tom Brokaw all the way!

Brian Williams is just a Tom Brokaw-wannabe.

just remember, they all started out as cub reporters. anyways, nobody today has the gravitas of john chancellor or walter kronkite, not to mention chet huntley and david brinkley- satirist-songwriter Tom Lehrer paid them [huntley and brinkley] tribute in his song about World War III: "While we're attacking frontally, Watch Brinkally and Huntally, Describing contrapuntally, The cities we have lost." and then there's the king of 'em all, edward r. murrow- brokaw and williams are just the latest who have to fill some pretty big old shoes.

Didn't exactly know what "cub reporter" meant (but now know after a search), but I knew they all pretty much start out as "menial" reporters.

I've never really watched Chancellor (even re-run clips), but thought Tom better than Cronkite from what I have seen of him. Part of the difference that you see between Tom and Cronkite is that Cronkite was an anchor before there were so many networks.

We always watched either CBS or ABC, so I mostly remember Dan Rather and Peter Jennings, although I actually remember the 3-anchor format on ABC, with Jennings, Frank Reynolds, and Max Robinson.

I didn't remember when it actually happened (I was 15 months old at the time), but while covering the assassination attempt on Reagan, a reporter erroneously stated that Reagan and James Brady had died from their injuries, and Frank Reynolds had an on-air meltdown, chastizing the reporter for not getting the facts straight.

Tom Brokaw was a better anchor (as I'm typing this, Brian Williams is talking about a report on blood pressure, heh).
