Ever since I was a little kid, he was Dr. McCoy, bones was just a nick name.

"Bones" has been usurped by Zooey Daschanel's sister's character- the aspie acting hottie forensic scientist in the show of that very name.

So now its gotta be "McCoy" to avoid confusion as to what TV character you're talking about.

For what it's worth, back during recess in my grade school days, I always got stuck playing Dr. McCoy whenever we play Star Trek. I wanted to be Scotty, damn it!
