I am curious how the responses to this will be, because it is pretty common knowledge among the fandom that autistics enjoy the show often. Curious if this is a true stereotype or not.

I enjoy it a lot, but don't really gel with the brony community.

FiM was one of my special interests throughout 2012, though I never got directly involved in the brony community (I make it a point to avoid getting involved in fandoms, for multiple reasons). I watched the show regularly up until "Hurricane Fluttershy", but then my interest kind of trailed off after that. I've tried rewatching the show from the beginning in fits and starts, but for some reason it feels more like a chore than an enjoyable experience. I just can't seem to recapture the feeling of intense obsession that gripped me when I first began watching it (I'm having similar problems with another special interest of mine).

I just watched an episode with half an eye earlier today... it was the episode where Rarity and her little sis have a falling out, and the sis ends up hanging out with Applejack and wanted her to be her big sis instead. I thought it was cool enough, but the episode didn't grab me.

I dunno, maybe I wasn't in 'cartoon mode' that particular moment. I've heard a lot of great things about MLP: FIM, but I've been getting my kicks reading the Bleach manga, so that's what's been occcupying my mind these past few weeks.

So far the stereotype seems true haha

Watched through the end of the season...eh, it was okay. The finale was way too rushed.

Will give Season 4 a chance, but Season 3 was a bit weak. Still, it takes a lot for me to just give up.

I tried watching it once and couldn't get into it. I have no problem with the "Brony" movement though - in fact I actually think it's great that there's such a strong movement surrounding men liking something that society thinks they aren't "supposed" to like.

Yeah, I used to think it was a lot of manchildren, but the movement is nice.

Personally, I can't understand it. The artistic value of it is slim, and it strikes me as pretty banal. But hey, to each his own.

Yes I do, but in the current season, I only saw 3: Too Many Pinkie Pies, Just for Sidekicks and Magical Mystery Cure.

Honestly I like cartoons but that show doesn't warrant the obesssion it has, the humor is usually derived from a combination of silly faces/weird sounds (the same things that babies find funny). When I look at it that way it makes sense that someone undeveloped in the humor department would find those things funny.

Silly faces/weird sounds is also the type of humor found in alot of anime. (The japanese are known to have a bad sense of humor). I still like a lot of anime though, but the comedy is always predictable and bad (usually female protagonist assaulting male over an awkward situation, then they insert the weird faces).

Or maybe your sense of humor is undeveloped because there is a lot more to the humor than just weird noises and silly faces in both FiM and Anime.

Well no, I grew up with anime. The comedy involved is always predictable an uninspired considering the amount of emphasis they place on the weird faces. And the ackward situation usually involves something perveted where the male is then assaulted by the female.

Anime has craft elsewhere though, which is in the a narrative, which is why I still like it. They usually have a powerful composition of characters.

I've watched tidbits of clips of the pony show, and the brand of humor is exactly the same. In one clip there was a pony character approaching another pink pony character whom was eating cupcakes, but when the character approached said pink-pony character, she turned around and made a silly face to scare the approaching character annnnnd.... a sound was played.

But Get it? It's funny because the pink pony really likes cup-cakes, so she made a scary-face towards the other character , so clever! (sarcasm).

I don't mean to sound like a spoil-sport but there are alot more cartoons and comedy out there that has much more craft put into it, it makes me sad that it's this that people choose to obsess over. But in the same sense that pop music is popular because it's simple, I guess this show is popular because it is simple.

EDIT: oh and I noticed you're 16 (above user), I still found anime to be funny when I was your age but alot of your comedic senses don't develop until later, I'm not aiming my lament towards you, but adults around my age that still like that sort of humor, it's time to move on. But younger people are just at a stage that they have to go through.

*facepalm*

Okay, my question was rhetorical because it's actually impossible to tell for yourself if you are missing something because if you don't know it's there, you don't know it's there. As an analogy, let's say a completely colorblind person looks at a rainbow, and assumes it's just a bunch of lines, and thus he assumes that people who are amused by the rainbow are amused by lines. He cannot comprehend colors, and doesn't know what he is missing. That's what my jab was about, you think the humor is only extremely crude because you don't understand the more sophisticated humor.

With the Japanese, you need to understand that different cultures have differently developed humor, so foreigners aren't going to get everything. Therefor foreigners are only going to get the "lower" forms of humor like slapstick because it's more universal. Many shows targeted specifically at international audiences drastically play up on physical humor because of this, like "Oggy and the Cochroaches". Anime and FiM are NOT like that. With anime you are being a cultural imperialist, assuming American humor is inherently more sophisticated than Japanese humor. With FiM I believe you are just stubbornly ignorant.

Do you really think you can judge a show just based on a few tidbits? Not even an entire episode! Well of course you aren't going to find as much of more sophisticated humor there, it takes more time to build up more sophisticated humor like dramatic irony. It sounds like you are basing the entire show off of reaction videos.

Oh, I guess the Office is just about people screaming at each other, and all the humor in it comes from people being entertained by people making weird sounds and funny faces.

Yes, FiM has plenty of slapstick (which, by the way, is something somewhat rare for a show centered around female characters), but it has other humor as well, and cutting out slapstick entirely does not make a show better. No, FiM doesn't have the most sophisticated humor in the world, but their is nothing wrong with that. Like anime it has more to it than just humor, it has a story elements as well, and other stuff. It's not in the extended narrative format of anime, it's episodic, but it does a pretty damn well job at telling stories in an episodic format, and it has loose continuity as well.

Is it the most sophisticated show ever? Of course not, but it doesn't have to be. It's simple enough to get into, but complex enough to be engage a range of audiences. You are both presumptuous and pretentious. You accuse FiM of being something it's not without placing yourself in any position to judge it, and you claim that unless something follows your standards than it lacks quality and merit. I don't care if you like the show or not, you are free to think it's as uncreative or banal as you want, but stop doing this, talking like you know everything when it's clear you don't, and acting like your opinions are facts. You also aren't even just insulting the show, you are directly insulting the people who watch, which just makes you a dick.

I agree with this.

I do like watching cartoons and such, MLP just bores me.
