Does Wesley Crusher is personification of Gene Roddenberry?

I heard that Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation was living personification of Gene Roddenberry , is this true?

As come for Wesley many people despise him even more hates him


I personally have mixed feelings, I can unequivocally state that I do not like him or not, the character is no doubt a lot of flaws, but when I was a teenager I wanted to be the same as Wesley. Then I thought that the character of Wesley, is the crowning proof that intelligence and good grades in school pays off and that even a teenager can do sometimes be better than an adult. In retrospect, I see that the character of Wesley Crusher had a lot of flaws, but I also heard that it was a favorite character of creator Gene Roddenberry Star Trek. I would like to know how you are referring to this.

At the ST:TNG 25th Anniversary event, everybody in the theater laughed/applauded when Picard said "shut up Wesley" during one of the episodes.

What was most irksom about the Wesley character is what was irksom about "wonder boy" characters in general.

Back in the day, we were raised on TOS, and the idea of letting a kid into the bridge, fly the ship, etc, was so out of character for the Federation.

It was also really funny how the Wesley character was portrayed as an "exceptionally handsome young-man". Even though he was slightly below-average in looks.

Did you know that Wil Wheaton(Wesley Crusher) just turned 40 about a month ago?

I read somewhere that Roddenberry considered Mr. Spock his alter ego. That said the two Wesley episodes I saw (I know Will Wheaton much better as Sheldon Cooper's nemesis) admittedly later on the series,
Wesley had some Spock like qualities, like being intelligent and basically logical-so I dunno!
