I just noticed this yesterday. Movies like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and The Last Boy Scout use ironic music for the opening/end credits. For example, Lethal Weapon begins with a coke-addled, half-naked hooker committing suicide, preceded by Jingle Bell Rock. Die Hard ends with Let It Snow, and The Last Boy Scout has Moody River over the end credits. Odd that such happy songs could be in such violent films...

There was trend of irony during the late 80's/early 90's. Advertising started to do the same thing.
