The AMC Western set in 1865 and depicting the construction of the Union Pacific branch of the transcontinental railroad....

I just discovered this on netflix.

I've only seen the first few episodes, but it seems to have a nice "deadwood" vibe but with a bit more action.

Colm Meaney is surprisingly great as the greedy robber baron building the railroad....

So, anybody else watching? Without getting too spoilery, does the show stay as great as it starts?

Here's a trailer for anyone unfamiliar.

I watched it on AMC last year, but Dish dropped the contract so I've been left hanging.I enjoyed it.I've seen Colm Meaney in a lot of Irish films and he's always good, very diverse in the parts he plays.Maybe Dish and AMC will solve their differences or I'll just catch the second season on Netflix.Enjoy.

My wife and I have been watching it from the start. Colm Meany and Common are great in their roles, as is that sinister character, "the Swede" (can't recall the actor's name).

Colm Meaney's Chief O'Brien from DS9 has to be my favorite Star Trek character of all time... Reminded me of me--Blue-collar tech who was as smart as any engineer but not afraid to get his hands dirty. 8)

I think it's interesting that in a show full of Irish characters, the cast's two most famous Dubliners, Meaney and Dominique McElligott play an American railroad tycoon and an English widow respectively.

PS

The Swed is a bastard isn't he?

He truly is. And just wait till you catch up with the later episodes, where the Swede loses his exulted position - and the sly, manipulative means by which he tries to regain it.
