I'm following the show. So far, I do like it, particularly since Mads Mickelson isn't trying to emulate Anthony Hopkins, but is trying to make the character his own. In a sense, there's a general departure from the movies and novels in that the series is set in recent times - such as when Hannibal's irritating, clingy patient talks about how he wished he could have befriended Michael Jackson and saved him.
While the portrayal of Will Graham is interesting with the Aspie dimension, I personally think there's too much of a diversion from the source material, in that he is a bachelor and loner in the show, rather than a married man and father, as he was portrayed in Red Dragon.
