I know that we're up to our ears in Sherlock Holmes movies and TV shows right now, but Michael Chabon's excellent novel The Final Solution would make a terrific film. It's about an 89-year-old Holmes during World War II. It would be beyond awesome if they could make a film version with Christopher Lee before he passes on.

Little Hammer

It's a crime short story/novelette and published in Darkest Before the Dawn magazine. It's about a detective who helps an art curator foil a gang of international art thieves.

Memory, Sorrow and Thorn trilogy by Tad Williams.
I can't believe with all the reading I've done in my life, that's all I can think of. :?

To AnonymousAnonymous: I could swear I saw a kind of blah made for TV adaptation of Farenheit 451 a long time ago.

A lot of my favorite books have already been made into movies.

American Tabloid by James Elroy. (Actually, James Franco is already planning to direct and star).
The Golden Slave by Poul Anderson.
Post Office by Charles Bukowski.
Pulp by Charles Bukowski.
At The Mountains Of Madness By H.P. Lovecraft. (Guillermo DelTorro has wanted to make it a movie for years).
Lest Darkness Fall by L. Sprague DeCamp.

@ Mindsigh: You're probably referring to the 1965 version of Fahrenheit 451 that starred Julie Christie.

@ Bill: Regarding At The Mountains of Madness, plans fell apart because GDT wanted the movie to have an R rating, but the studio wanted a PG-13. Also, GDT was at one point attached to direct a remake of Slaughterhouse 5, but plans fell apart for that too.

Returning to subject, how about film adaptations of Sometimes A Great Notion or The Poisonwood Bible?

Concrete: Strange Armor - a graphic novel by Paul Chadwick

This is an unusual story and character to pull of well visually. I lean toward to idea of Richard Linklater doing this. Shoot live action with some CGI just to use as a guide and then go over the whole movie with Rotoscoping the way he did A Scanner Darkly. It would make the graphic novel come to life.

Would manga count? If so, I nominate any of Hiro (Fairy Tail) Mashima's lesser-known work. Monster Soul is at the top of my list for me.

As far as real books go, I'd love to see a real good version of The Phantom Tollbooth; I didn't care for the Chuck Jones version (and apparently, neither did Norton Juster).

Metro 2033 although this is already going to be made. They have given the rights to MGM. F. Scott Frazier is writing the script. No clue who that is.
