Let's start a Sailor moon this thread by answering these questions:

When did you first discover this show? When i was very young, it played alongside power rangers i watched the english dub. I re-discovered this show in grd.9 after stumbling on a fan site explaining the differences between Jap. and Eng. adaptations. I fell in love with the show afterwards.

Dub or Sub? I typicaly prefer Dubs, since i don't like reading my anime, but this is a peculiar case where i have to watch the sub.

Favourite Senshi: Mars (and Pluto) 8)

Least favourite: though one, since i don't hate any of them but if i really had to chose i would probably pick Chibi-moon (no hate, just not my favourite)

Favourite vilain: Black Lady

Favourite movie (if any): Undecided.

It played early mornings before school on a syndicated local station. I think I was in middle school at the time. Yes, it was the English sub. Loved it immediately. I saw that it was kind of "formulaic" (the whole "Monster of the Week" thing in the first arc), but I still never got bored with it. Have recently rediscovered it, and also watched a good part of the live-action series (see below).

Since watching PRETTY GUARDIAN SAILOR MOON online (the live-action version that was only meant to be seen in Japan--it existed on YouTube for a while), I definitely prefer the sub. The English dub (of the anime, I mean) changed WAY TOO MUCH, starting with the theme song. It also deleted several episodes, which means that a lot of the plot and character development was deleted. I wondered why things were so different in PGSM.

Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Mercury.

Don't really have one either...and I don't want to say anything bad about any of them, since they all had their flaws and their strong points. Usagi was a bit annoying when the series started, but she did change--which was kind of the point.

I understand your point about Chibi-usa, but I think she got a bit less annoying as time went on too...a little.

Kunzite--more so in PGSM, but still....

Still have yet to see them...

Back in the day (late 90s so I would've been about 13 - I don't know what grade that would be in the American school system), FOX KIDS used to have an anime hour at 5pm on weekdays; Sailor Moon followed by Flint the Time Detective (though me and my sister always jumped to Cartoon Network at 5.30 to watch Dragonball Z). Sailor Moon was one of our first exposures to anime and even then, it was always rather amusing seeing what was cut/hastily edited over. Since then, (and the advent of Pokemon) I've been an anime fan. There's something about the magic of transformation and girls being the main protagonists I really like.

I definitely prefer subtitles-- whilst I appreciate what the dub has done, I like seeing what was originally intended to air, rather than a periodically clumsy adaptation (especially when it came to Cloverway's vocal casting - sorry Lynda Ballantyne!). Though, that said, there are times when the dub actually outdoes the original.

I don't really have a favourite senshi since they all have their good points. However, my least favourite would be a tie between Sailor Mercury (boring characterisation) and Sailor Chibi-Moon (I hate SuperS with a passion)

Favourite villain... hmmm, I'd say Galaxia as she meant business from the start, and it was her intervention with Nehellenia that made Sailor Stars' opening arc so exciting!

Favourite movie: Sailor Moon R for action, Sailor Moon S for plot and improved animation.

Oh god, the memories! Sailor Moon was the show that started me on the slippery slope that is anime fandom and as such retains a fond place in my heart. I first watched the show in the German dub when I was about nine years old, and proceeded to videotape the entire thing. I obsessed about the show -- threw tantrums when I missed an episode, studied a bit of astronomy as well as astrology and other esoteric stuff like birth stones (... I know, but I was in my pre-teens) to go along with it.

I also watched the Live Action series and some of the musicals (either as official recordings or as staged by German fans), and I'm really, really excited for the new anime that was supposed to air this summer but has apparently been pushed back to next year?

Dub or Sub? When I need them, I generally prefer subs. However, I'm super nostalgic for the German dub of this show (even though they gave Zoisite and Fish Eye women VA's -- at least Haruka and Michiru weren't 'cousins' here), so it's a tie.

Favourite Senshi: Jupiter and Uranus.

Least favourite: Chibi-moon, Venus

Favourite vilain: those of the Black Moon- and Death Buster cycles

Favourite movie (if any): prooooobably Sailor Moon R.

I watched the show for a very brief period as a teenager when Cartoon Network aired it. The storyline was alittle confusing for me but I would probably had to see it from the beginning for it to make sense. I don't really care about watching it now but I do like that RPG Supper Nintendo game that was only released in Japan but a there's a translated rom that I play on my comp with an emulator program. I found it hard to follow the storyline & where to go at times but it's fun.

I love it and looking forward to the reboot anime. My favourite senshi is Neptune and I have a doll of her from Japan.

I used to watch Sailor Moon religiously back in high school fifteen or so years ago on Cartoon Network. I don't remember much, but I do remember I had a virtual crush on Sailor Jupiter that was also tied to wanting to be just like her.

I do remember watching the series on KTZZ-TV (now KJZO-TV) in Seattle, but it when it was Toonami on Cartoon Network that it got me into the anime fandom for good. I have such fond memories.....

I saw it during it's initial 1995 run in english (which actually started here in Canada before the States). I was already an anime fan at the time, so I was naturally interested in checking out Sailor Moon, despite not really knowing anything about it beforehand other than it was anime. I've been a fan of it ever since. :)

Like most anime, I like it in Japanese better than english. The original dubbing through season 1 and part of season 2 actually wasn't that bad overall though. I didn't like some of the stuff they cut and/or changed in the dubbed version, but I thought the initial english voice cast was pretty decent for the most part. The second dubbing cast (for seasons 2.5 through 4) was fairly awful though, with the second Sailor Moon voice actress being especially unbearable, and it was really hard to watch it in english anymore.

Quote:
Favourite Senshi: Mars (and Pluto) 8)

In the english version I also liked Mars the best, she was one of the better voice acting jobs in the dub.
In the Japanese verison Makoto (Sailor Jupiter) and Saiya (Sailor Star Fighter) are my favorites.

Same. Chibi-Usa sort of annoys me in both versions, though she's a bit more bearable in the Japanese version.

Quote:
Favourite vilain: Black Lady

Hmmm, this is a tough one, there's a lot of great villains. I especially like all the 4 Generals from season 1, so I think I'll just lump them together as my favorites.

Quote:
Favourite movie (if any): Undecided.

The R movie I thought was the most well done. They're all kind of shallow though (which I suppose is understandable given their short duration).

Quote:
Favorite season:

Season 1 (Sailor Moon) and Season 5 (Sailor Stars) are easily my 2 favorite seasons, and it's hard to choose which of those two I like better. I wish they'd put Sailor Stars out here, I own the subbed box set of Season 1 (which has some beautiful packaging, btw), but don't really like the other seasons enough to buy them except Sailor Stars, but it doesn't look like it'll ever be localized even just on video here. :?

Quote:
Least favorite season:

Season 4 (Sailor Moon SuperS). Too much Chibi-Usa, no outer scouts, and the ridiculous circus theme just made it a bit of a drag for me to watch through.

I used to watch the shows now I just read the Manga. I have a Sailor Saturn shirt. I really like Sailor Pluto and Artemis. I have a Sailor Moon poster as well. I like how Sailor Pluto is the guardian of Space and Time. That reminds me of Dialga and Palkia from Pokemon.

I did purchase a Sailor Moon shirt at a recent con; can't remember what it was, but it sure brought back memories. Now if there was a Digimon shirt on sale, though......

Hate to be a pedantic Pete but Lynda Ballantyne was Sailor Moon voice number 3. Terri Hawkes was Sailor Moon voice number 2, the first being Tracey Moore of the Adventures of Super Mario. Terri Hawkes had the longest reign recording but didn't record Sailor Moon S due to her being pregnant. She did return to dub all three Sailor Moon movies though.

But I agree, Lynda Ballantyne and whoever the second Amy was were not my favourite cast members.

Speaking of Lynda Ballantyne, when asked about whether she'll do the dub of the new series: http://fredjfrancis.kinja.com/sailor-mo ... 1441463968

There's only one dub-anime recording studio I know of in Dallas... could this mean a possible Funimation dub? I don't know what to think - Funimation, nor Toei, haven't exactly had the most successful run of anime that's aired on American television (sans Adult Swim). But then again, anything's possible. We'll just have to wait and see, eh?
