I'm just curious, but why do streaming movie services like amazon or netflix have such limited selections? It almost feels like the people who make the movies don't want us to actually watch them! I'm more than willing to pay for such services, provided they have a selection worth paying for.
I have been trying to watch a few movies over the past few weeks, that are no longer in theatres or available for rent at the store (lol). I wanted to watch them on amazon instant video...you can rent many movies for like 3-5 dollars on there, and even watch some for free. But, every single movie I was looking for was either not available, or only available for purchase for like $15. I'm the kind of person who will never buy a movie before watching it, so I really feel limited there. Still I'm debating buying one just because it seems to be the only avenue through which it's available...even though I know I'm getting ripped off doing so and may not even like the movie.
I went on netflix also to try to find a few older movies, but not a single one was available there. I canceled netflix a while back just because their selection was so limited...it seemed to be mostly B-movies from the late 80s.
It just seems to me that, from a business perspective, it would make more sense to have every movie that is released available on these services. If people are still paying X amount to watch it, that is potentially a huge and untapped cash flow for essentially no investment.
