He's too glib and socially aware. He reads people far too well to be an Aspie. Besides, it's been established in the show already that he does not have AS, but rather, as Cuddy put it "just a jerk." It's in the episode about the autistic boy. Wilson suggests it to Cuddy, and then Cuddy refutes him.

So misanthrope, yes. Aspie, no. Sorry, but I suspect part of the writers' reason to include that little interlude that established that he doesn't have AS was so people would know whatever his problem is, why he's miserible and alone, whatever about him that makes the viewer a bit uneasy, it's his own fault. It's his choice he's that way. We don't get to blame it on his having a disorder and then pity him just to make ourselves feel comfortable about him. We have to set aside our own bullsh*t and to take him at face value, just like he goes around brushing aside other people's bullsh*t and dealing with them at face value.

I like that. It's smart writing

Despite that episode I still suspect that he has a degree of AS, whether or not the writers' goal was to establish he wasn't autistic. I'm incredibly socially aware, but have other symptoms that declare me irrefutably aspergian. He also doesn't seem to hold any meaningful eye contact, and looks down a lot of the time when stressed or confronted. I know that's not the sole basis for a diagnosis but the way he does it certainly helps to support his case. Also, he can be an ass, but I'm an ass to people too because I just don't relate to ANYONE and I get frustrated. No one understands me and I don't like other people so it turns into a vicious circle in which I shut myself off emotionally to everyone. Whether or not he "has" AS (as much as a fictional character can,) is up in the air, but it's in no way out of the question.

There have been a few conversations about this before. Wilson even brought it up as a diagnosis for why House acts the way he acts. I personally do not believe he does, mainly because he has no issues with interacting with people, never gets nervous when speaking to others and appears to not be anxious about being social.

I don't appear to be anxious about being social either, but when it comes down to it, I'm much more comfortable being alone than around others, as House seems to be as well. AS is not the same as social anxiety.

I tend to agree. Also, the episode with the autistic child I felt was ambiguous because he, after all, could communicate with the kid. The social aspect is also in question as throughout the series he has distrusted everybody, questions everybody's judgment, and is generally paranoid. With one exception however, Wilson, who he is nearly freely emotional with compared to the others.

I thought it was sensationally boring and disappointing. It was office politics-excitement rather than the real type of excitement I've come to expect from the show, and I'm not particularly interested in what happens during the season premiere.

Maybe, maybe not. I think he falls somewhere on the spectrum at least.

the problem for me wasn't that it focused on the office drama as much as it was that the drama felt kinda forced. and the ending too...but i won't say anything because i don't wanna spoil it for jijin.
