I own a JVC Everio, and I know digital cameras like this really aren't what filmmakers use. But I've been interested in trying out filmmaking, but I'm new at this stuff and I don't really have much of a budget right now. Should I save up, or will this camera do for now?

Let me say first that I don't know anything about cameras.
But as long as it functions, it should be enough to get you started. Maybe use it to get you started, and gradually save up for whatever the next thing happens to be.
