I usually don't care about the Pokémon anime because I stopped watching it when I was still just a kid. That being said, I want to draw attention to this, as I consider it to be yet another example of political correctness gone mad.

We've become so afraid of blackface that anything which vaguely resembles blackface is banned.

FACT: Most kids who see this episode will see no racial connotation whatsoever. When I was a kid, I honestly didn't realize that Jynx resembled a blackface stereotype. I didn't see any racial connotation in Jynx until I learned about the controversy online as a teenager. Even after learning about the controversy, I still thought that Jynx looked more like an opera singer than any sort of racial stereotype.

One of the biggest differences between adults and children is this: Adults tend to see racial meaning all over the place, which can frequently lead to an "everything is racist" mentality. Children are race-blind for the most part. No child is going to start burning effigies of Abe Lincoln just because of that banned episode.

Do you know who else vaguely resembles a blackface character? Micky mouse. What's the matter Disney? Can't handle harsh truths regarding your past?

I saw that Jynx ep. It was in the collection of seasons I DLed & I got around to watching the 1st season. Anyways blackface has NEVER crossed my mind about that ep till now. I had NO CLUE there was any controversy about it till now. I think people are looking for racism where it doesn't exist because they want to b!tch about anything.

I too always thought Jynx was supposed to resemble an opera singer. The only reason I might think Jynx might be censored would be because it has or appears to have breasts (which apparently my mom thought was weird - she commented on it when she got her first one in Pokemon Go). I had no idea there was any sort of racial or "blackface" connection (or perceived connection) until reading this, and I watched Pokemon from the very beginning until partway through the second introduction of new Pokemon (Hoenn region) and still haven't stopped playing the games. And in the episode in the video, it should be blatantly obvious to anyone of any age watching that Ash has his face painted to look like Passimion, not another human - so unless they're going to start complaining about that Pokemon too, it doesn't make sense to me to see it as any allusion to "blackface" or anything. It's not any different from the time I dressed up as a dog for Halloween complete with leash, barking, and of course face painting, and no one had anything negative to say about that. At least, that's how I see it.
