Has anyone seen Belleville Rendezvous? It's a 2004 French anime film. Anime is usually not my taste but I love the dark, gritty and yet protestant hope that emanates throughout the film. The way the obese boy is chased by his obese grandmother with her obese dog as she blows her whistle in her car into riding his bike into fitness and entering the Tour De France. I like how they live in a grotty yet romantically built stone apartment. It's curiously soothing how it's right next to a railway track that the boy looks out on. He glances at the passing characters.

Somehow I think this movie was almost made for Aspies. The train, the cycling, the melancholy. It almost perfectly sums up an average Aspie life.

In the US that film is called "The Triplets of Belleville". I liked it so much I bought the DVD, and I rarely buy a movie I can't rent.

You're right: there's something about the film that is just quintessentially aspergean, right down to the utterly fanciful scene at the close, with the pedaling movie-screen contraption. Absolutely delightful.

I had to laugh at the poor frogs, too. Great animation.

Sounds like something I should check out. On a side note Perambulator, your avatar is awesome.

Thanks. Dumb and Dumber is the best film ever.

Oh man, I can't believe other people have even seen that movie! So beautiful visually, and very little dialogue to get in the way and mess it up. You brought back some happy memories with this thread, Perambulator (and now I have to go rent it again).

Yes! Yes! The Triplets of Belleville is one of my favorite films! I wouldn't call it anime though. Just animation.
