Anybody here hear of "The Decalogue" TV series?

I recently heard of a Polish TV series that aired in 1989 on Polish TV titled "The Decalogue". The series is comprised of ten 1 hour episodes that are based on each of the ten commandments. This series sounds extremely promising to me so I decided to order the 3-disc DVD set on Amazon.com. I can't wait to watch this series. Everything I have read about this movie is positive and Stanley Kubrick himself stated that this miniseries was the only true masterpiece that he'd ever seen. If any of you guys out there have seen this tell me what you thought about it. Thanks.

I have heard of it and would like to see it - not in the video stores so I may have to rent an online copy or see if I can download it anywhere.

Same director also made the films Bleu, Blanc and Rouge...check those out too.

I have the series on DVD. Why? It's an interesting look though I tend to think that the ones that have been turned into films are superior.

Also, if you like that sort of thing, check out a film called Interrogation, also a Polish film released at about the same time. Very grim viewing indeed. The lead actress spends the entire film screaming!

I watched it a few years ago. I would really rent it on Netflix before purchasing it if I were you. I wasn't all that impressed with most of the episodes, and the ones I did like I wouldn't bother watching again. The reason it's so highly regarded, I believe, is because it's artfully made and is technically perfect. But those features don't make a good movie. "Citizen Kane" was the best made film of its time, and most people won't even watch it today. There's a big difference between a movie being well made, and a movie being entertaining or interesting to watch.

It's very loosely based on the 10 commandments anyway. Most of the time I couldn't tell which one was supposed to be which.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this series?
