WARNING: If you don't know how Death Note ends and don't want it to be spoiled, do not read the blank areas. If you don't care, simly highlight these areas with your cursor to read.

For those of you who don't know of the Mayan Doom Prophecy, it is a theory proposed by the Mayans that some cataclysmic event will occur on December 21, 2012 (because of this, the suprisingly accurate Mayan Calendar ends on this date) which could mean the end of humanity as we know it.

What does this have to do with Death Note, you ask? Well, in episodes since
the death of L
, if you noticed the date in some of the scenes involving Mellow and Near, the date of these scenes is captioned as being early-mid year in the year 2012. Furthermore, the Japanese version of Death Note (the one that is completed) ends when
Kira, believing all of humanity to be inmerfect and corrupt, uses the death note for total xenocide of the human race.
This supposedly occurs not long after Mellow and Near take over for L on the Kira case. Is it possible the dates are coincidence? I think not.

Feedback, anyone?

December 21, 2012 will come and go, nothing will happen, alot of this stuff is only new age propaganda, in the hopes
of spawning a new age in enlightened thought, most of this stuff is harmless, unless it inspires a dooms day cult like
Heaven's Gate, or the Solar Temple. You really have to take a lot of New Age ideas with a grain of salt, as it practitioners
can be a little silly.

Light never commits genocide. He instead wants to weed out criminals, and reign over that world as a god. I am not sure what the death toll is, but I doubt that it is more than a million or so. Large, yes, but hardly anywhere near the entire human race.

However, in the five intervening years between L's death, and when Near and Mello start to take action, Light takes the lives of more criminals than he ever did.

Well, someone told me Death Note ends with Light killing off everyone except himself, but then again, not sure how reliable this source is. If it were true, having it happen around December 21, 2012 would be an interesting allusion to the Mayan prophecy.

I put my money on Light killing everyone except him and Misa, then they procreate to start off their "perfect world"

Your friend was feeding you BS. I won't tell you exactly how it ends, but let us just say that proper justice, and not Kira justice, prevails.

Light hates Misa's guts, and if it weren't for her shinigami eyes, (not to mention Rem's threats) he would be shot of her.

Do the Death Note manga and the anime have the same ending? Lots of anime series (card captor sakura, fullmetal alchemist) deviate significantly from their source material.

They have a similar ending. Just a few details differ, apparently. Nothing actually significant. But the outcome of who survives is the same, I think.

Could that be the Director's Cut ending?
