So, hello there. My step-mother urged me to check out this site, and I've been reading through it a bit, and I seem to enjoy it.
So, me?
Well, I didn't figure out that I'm an aspie until a few years back. My little sister was diagnosed around that time. She is the worst of us on the scale that I may explain later. Anyhow, I suppose we were all off, but she was off enough to require some sort of diagnostic. So, after she was diagnosed, we all took a look at ourselves, after learning about this magical thing known as Asperger's Disorder/Syndrome/Thing. It explained a lot, and we noticed that we are a large collection of Aspie, streaming from my grandfather. Its obviously more complex than that, but cliffs-notes, you know.
So, enter the aspie:
My interests? If its broken, or can operate more efficiently, I have to create it, clean it, fix it. I can't stand to have something not working to peak performance. This CAN be better! This is all well and good, with my profession of working in an IT department, programming, and fixing the broken computers.
I'm about 26ish and am working on a bachelor's of science in Computer Science, a math minor, and a secondary teaching certificate. A bit old for college, one might say. I say NEVER! God, I'm probably going to be taking classes for forever. There is so much tasty information out there ... There are many things out there that I need to know.
Why am I an aspie?
So, this all come about because I'm having difficulties with my current girlfriend. She says that she enjoys the person that I was when we first started dating. Unfortunately, this was my social mask, my social song and dance. I spent hours telling her about what its like to be an aspie, but she usually just rolls her eyes, and tells me that everyone is like that. I get the feeling that she things Asperger's is bull. I don't think she even read a page about Asperger's. She says that I shouldn't have to be two people, and I tell her that I have to ... its not socially acceptable otherwise. She wants me to try and not be an aspie ... thats like telling a color blind person to see color (courtesy of my father's words). I don't think I have the dexterity to keep up that show for forever.
Everyone really likes my social self ... I'm that guy everyone wants to be around. I'm that sharp-dressed, good looking guy that can be the smooth talker. In reality, I'm the other side of the street. Few people understand who I really am. I'm a very isolated and quiet individual. I'm perfectly content to program at 3am, in my room with no lights but the glow of the monitor. She says that I can do that, but she wants to be in the room too, doing homework or something. She just doesn't understand that I can't have that. I can't not pay attention to her being in the room. Having anyone in my room is distracting. It's my safe place.
I think I just need to find someone that is louder to me than my aspie tendencies ... I've found people like that before. Although, sometimes things don't work out for things other than Asperger's.
So, I guess this has become a rant on my current situation, oh well.
Other things:
I enjoy movies ... I read for information. I have a copy of Harry Potter that I've read 2 pages of, and decided it wasn't informative enough, and picked up a book on Ruby. Now thats a Tasty Book. I'm currently working on an inventory system for the university that I Work for. While other people go out on saturdays, I'm working on an inventory system. It's seriously exciting for me. I get all tickled inside when I can manage inventory data. Sick, no? But as soon as this project is over, I'mm sure I'll find something new, like an Aspie Dating site ... which I jokingly mentioned to my parents last night. On a side note, having aspie parent's makes the world better. Its nice having older aspies to ask "hey, whats the rule for this" or "how would you handle this" ... its good. Free social rules dispenser.
Anyhow, I think thats enough of me going of in eleventy billion directions.
Good to be here.
I'm glad this is here.
Keep on keepin on.
How do you end these things?
Meow
