Hello everybody, I found out that I have Aspergers yesterday and found this site in my hunt for information. My name is Joe, I'm gay and HIV+ I live in a squat in London and I'm working on getting into a self sufficient community in Devon. I have lots of interests. I was a lighting designer (I worked on the light show for the opening of Canary Wharf) studied physics at Brunel University but gave up when I was diagnosed with AIDS so I never finished the degree. Went into computer art and animation and from there into web development.

On realising what a mess the world is in I got involved in sustainability and environmental protest and learned permaculture (Given up on protest now I've realised it's both pointless because of NT genetics and too late). I've been a mushroom forager since I was a child and I'm quite well versed on fungi now and I'm currently learning medicinal herbs.

Finding out about Asperger's was a great relief and brought into perspective a lot of stuff about myself and the rest of the world that just made no sense at all to me before.

Why do you think that it is too late to save the world?

That post was too much. so I'll edit it. I think that the system is too embedded with self interest on the part of a few to listen to reason and that it's time to become self sufficient. If enough of us do it we can have a decent world; we just have to be allowed to do it. I intend to try and do my part starting with myself.

I am very interested in sustainaility, permaculture etc too and have also looked at getting into a sustainable community in Devon! Also wanting to do a herbal medicine course. We have alot in common so just thought id say hi!

I have an interest in physics (and in fact a degree). I also have low degree of pessimism. I think that eviornmentalism could be reinvigorated by stronger communication skills, and therefore I do not see the battle as over.

My favorite anecdote about pessimism is that when he was an undergraduate, Ralph Nader wanted to understand pessimism so he read the entire works of the philosopher Schopenhauer; he concluded that pessimism was no use for any thing.
