My mom has Aspergers
I actually ended up talking to my father about the possibility of me having AS today. He agreed that it describes me and went on to state that he thinks that BOTH he and my mother could have it as well. But he too knows that my mother can never be wrong, so he's going to try to present her with the idea that we could have it, and let her draw her own conclusions about herself based on that. She probably won't connect the dots immediately, but maybe over time he can gently steer her around her mental blocks.
My mum has aspergers too, I can relate to the OCD I have apparently quite severe OCD at times of stress and other anxiety, a lot of it I believe comes from the temper tantrums, I still feel my heart start to race now when I think she's going to have one. It was very hard growing up with her, never having a mum you can go to for a cuddle or reassuring words, never hearing your mum say 'I love you'. Luckily I always had my dad there for me, he pretty much brought me and my brother up ( my brother who also has aspergers ). I do love my mum but I'm very relieved that I don't have to live with her anymore and I can only handle her in small doses to be honest. I'm 22 now by the way, I think as long as I can remember I was aware that my mum was odd, compared to my friends mums, things that are usually a treat like mother daughter shopping trips or meals always turned into a HUGE catastrophe as she was flipping out at someone, quite often me but also anyone who spoke to her slightly wrong, and I would end up mortified sat in the corner wishing the ground would swallow me quite often after getting a whack around the head for begging her to stop. I stopped going anywhere with her from quite a young age and still avoid it now. She is not a total monster on the flip side she can be very sweet and timid too, which makes me feel awfully guilty for ever being mad at her. My childhood was very strange and my relationship with my mum is still not 'normal' .
Well, I am astounded. What a revelation! I have been researching Aspergers for about a month now, (for myself) and I literally just had a lightbulb moment! My Mother, and my adult Son, very clearly have it! Everything makes a lot more sense insofar as those relationships are concerned! I have been diagnosed as having BPD and am due to start therapy for it. I consider that I may have one foot on either side of the fence...maybe that's why my life is such a shambles?
Talk about an opposing set of personality traits! BPD/ASP ![]()
