As an after thought.

Hey Merle...if that picture is too big, let's figure out the pixel size that fits comfortably and put up a sticky someplace on the good size to post. I can do it, but I need to know what the size of the screen used by most is the max that is considered to be a norm. Ok I think I need to make that plainer, gimmie a minute.

In XP you go to the my computer icon on your desk top or from your start button on the task bar, from there you go to My Computer, from that list or icon group you pick My Display, then pick the last tab. You'll then see a screen resolution with a slider bar. On this one I use 1680 by 1050 and even that is stretched, most monitors won't do it. What I need to know is what those in the control sections of WP seem fit for the common screen resolution. Knowing that I can figure out the pixel size that will fit without needing to use the slide to see the post and anything else on the page. In other words, just like the avatar has a max size, I can figure that out once I know the considered normal viewing resolution for pictures. I don't have to use just pixels, I can also convert it into other distance measurements.

This is the same area you can find the view that best fits your eye, but understand you can also make the lettering larger or smaller else where. It is an independent variable.

I have no idea on the other viewers (FireFox, etc.) or anything that might come with Linux. (I still haven't put the 64 bit version on lau, but about ready to, this machine is finally stable)

Maybe make a sticky someplace else with the info, I dunno.

What size image can I post?

It's based roughly on the idea that monitor resolution of 1024x768 is a reasonable minimal one could expect, reduced by the (small) browser and (large) WP overhead.

With my browser window at 1,024 wide, the edges and scroll bar leave 1,007 pixels for WP. Once WP has displayed its furniture, my WebDeveloper extension shows me that only 627 pixels remain in the post area, before it needs scrolling. I.e. WP's layout takes 380 pixels off the available width.

Using Photobucket, you can put "th_" on the front of the filename to get to the thumbnail. Viz:

With ImageShack, you replace the ".jpg" with ".th.jpg" (or png/gif/etc). I'm not familiar with other image hosting sites.

I use photoshop elements and don't use the online services. The image you show looks about the same size as an avatar on mine.

If I click on it, it about doubles. But in a seperate window.

At 1024X768 on a wide screen I still need a slider for wide screen, let me fire up the other machine. Same on the other, need the slider to see the rest of the words. The photo opens and shows very nicely, but on the screen it still looks about the size of an avatar.

Even a Youtube picture is bigger.

Ok I resized it according to the faqs that I saw posted. It gave the actual pixel size, 640x480, which was what I needed to know. You can resize from within photo bucket if you don't have photoshop elements. No code needed just put in the numbers, much easier. Now how to remember the damn numbers. I have a feeling it's going to be how to tell a "b" from a "d" hell all over again. It never ends. But I know how to do that too.

800x600 is probably a good rule of thumb

Lived through the bears, had my little ipod stereo hooked onto the bike and it was pretty loud. If they were out there they were all listening to "Shambala". Got rained on so didn't get to finish the whole 25 miles. It was pouring down for about 4 miles and I looked like a wet rat by the time I got back.

Mini-reika enjoyed her little birthday celebration. Good thing it was just family through cause she absolutely REFUSED to let us tear into her cake. (cupcakes put together to look like a little alligator, really cute) Hes still sitting here and I'v had to light her candle about 20 times so she can blow it out and yell "Happy Birthday" to herself. Shes 7 now.

Postie, my great-grandfather was Indian and he used to have all kinds of stuff on the Thanksgiving table. I remember one year asking him what everything was and he took me by the hand and pointed out not only the possum, but also the beaver tail, and woodchuck. I stuck with turkey.

Thankfully no ticks here in Alaska. But as a child in Kentucky I remember pulling the big fat ones off our dog and dropping them into a cup of gasoline and then we'd set it on fire when it was full. I felt sad for the dying ticks but loved my dog more. No snakes here either although I absolutely LOVE snakes, and want one for a pet. Just unwilling to assume responsibility for something else at this point in time.

Today is one of the 17 days of the year when I can ask a serious question. I decided to spend my question allowance for this questionable feast day on this: is this possible outside of computer graphics?

If this guy is for real, does Michelin pay him enough that he can afford his pint of steroids each day?

I've been there myself 20 years ago when my foster father passed away. My condolences.

it's been a bad night all around. someone broke into the cat shelter (cut through the fence with a bolt cutters) and let a lot of the cats loose. that's coyote country out there. and a lot of the cats that were let out are elderly, blind, or ill.

took the donation jar. not sure what else is missing yet. my guess is that they hit the pharmacy, too. as##oles.

I understand about the processing it. Both my folks are gone. It took me a while too. I don't think the rest of the family understood the outward signs I displayed or my actions. I know they still don't understand and I don't care. It was when I laughed that the tears and release came. And I don't care how others perceive that word laugh either. I think of them at the oddest of times, almost out of left field. Like some kind of reminder. I've even thought when faced with neeeding a math formula, "Well you dumby, give Dad a call if he doesn't know the answer, we'll figure it out together". That's when I understand they really aren't gone at all and I give a chuckle. It's still fresh for you. Try to remind yourself if you start thinking, if I had only done this, it is not your fault, it happened just as it was meant to happen.

I live in my head and in my head they never left. Although Mom could leave a little bit more than she does.

My thoughts are with you, hartz - well, in honesty, they're with you when I remember, but I've been there too. I even got to deliver a eulogy at my father's funeral, where I got to remind everyone of his sense of humor, the one aspect so many seemed to have forgotten. (When the hearse came to pick him up from my brother's house to go to the funeral home, the driver got lost on the way out, realizing this only when he drove past the sign that read, "Dead End". Dad would have loved that.)

Mourn the death, or celebrate the life, in your own way, and don't let others' expectations control how you feel or act.
