Your comment about Final Fantasy made me think about an interesting insight I had about Aspies and video games, particularly MMORPGs, recently.
To a lot of people, interaction in MMORPGs is limited, because the non-verbal communication doesn't get through.
But you know what? We don't get that anyway. In an MMORPG, everyone else is under that same handicap. It levels the playing field, and brings neurotypical people down to our level of social handicap. Only we've had a lot more practice at it.
It's not that MMORPGs and other online virtual worlds are more real to us than to other people. It's that in those virtual worlds, everyone else has to experience the world the same way we do.
