Krista - I'm interested in late European archaeology - the Iron Age or the Age of the "Celts" (though we try to avoid that trap), although I also have interests in other aspects of archaeology and human evolution.

I'm a TA, been one for three years, but have never had an RAship yet, unfortunately. I've mostly taught lab for our Human Evolution class, and done grading/mentoring for other introductory archaeology courses.

I recall hearing something about aye-aye's being perceived as evil creatures... but I don't know too many specifics about that, unfortunately. I'll have to look that up (yay... new fixation!)

If I remember properly, the aye-aye is considered bad luck by Magalasy tribes.

So here I am, finally replying to your message to me! Iron Age archaeology sounds fantastic to me. If I were an archaeologist, I might study Viking Age Scandinavia. In your studies of Celtic cultures, have you gotten into Druidism at all? I find it pretty interesting. Do you study mostly toolmaking and architecture and stuff like that, or do you get into the cultural stuff as well, such as religion?

I did look up the aye aye to see if what I remembered about them was correct. Superstition is to kill them on sight, apparently, because people fear them. Poor little guys.

Good luck in getting an RA- ship!

TrubPotto, I need to say I'm very jealous of you and your grad. program. Especially the teaching part. I miss my primatology and human evolution courses! Anthro is my passion; I started grad. school but ran out of money after the first semester. Nursing will pay for grad school far better than waitressing will! What school do you attend?

my parents were (retired now) archaeologists.... north american indians. good stuff.

what kind of RAs can you do for your area of interest. how's teaching gone for you as an aspie? i had about 4 yrs of it myself... teaching 2nd graders aw well as college students.... is actually how i came to dx myself.... 5 terms of getting random comments on my interaction behavior... can't argue with 60 kids a term telling you to look at them when you talk to them and to sound more excited ect when you talk... blah blah blah there were lots of weird things they said and they irked me until i found an autism article and that smacked me in the face. OOOHHHHHHH!

After reading the title of your thread, I can't believe no one has asked the obvious followup question:

Are you a man of wealth and taste?

:)

Oh wow, more replies... sorry to leave some of you guys hanging! I probably aught to PM answers so I don't clog this up for the band-new posters trying to introduce themselves.

Thanks you, DeaconBlues! I was wondering if and when anyone would pick up a semi-obscure Austin Powers reference... :afro:

Didn't get it from Austin Powers, actually - I thought it was a Rolling Stones reference! :)

Haha, true... Sympathy for the Devil?

Only Mic just says "Allow ME to introduce myself..." instead of butchering it...
