Well, after reading discussions for some months now, I'm finally registered and contributing.

Although I haven't been officially diagnosed with Asperger's, I'm quite convinced this is where I belong. I grew up being labeled ADD, then ADHD, clinically depressed, having dysgraphia, and a general klutz. Although I consider myself a social person, I haven't always fitted in socially. I go to social events and do quite well as a fly on the wall. One of my nicknames is simply "Weird" (which I have no problem with).

Over the past couple of years, my nephew has been diagnosed with Asperger's. As my sister has learned more, she is convinced that I have it to (that running in families thing). It has been my aha moment.

So, I am here now hoping that I can learn something, teach something, say something crazy, or just hang out.

Welcome to WP ! !!

As far as advice, what do you want to know ??

For some of us you are a bit lucky, finding out when you're young is an advantage to finding out when you're in your forties or fifties ! !

I suppose being a thritysomething is still young enough!

As far as advice, much of it has to do with relationships: social, friendships, dating, professional, employment. Most of the relationships I have are good. I just want more. It's hard to start new relationships.

I also have low self confidence . . . how do I improve that? :?

You could start by not thinking of yourself as odd and porcine. I mean, the "weird" part I totally understand (you're not weird here, though)... but "pig"? What's the backstory there? I hope it's something innocuous and not referring to self-image :!:

Otherwise,
Remember to build yourself up with positive statements
Think of yourself as a "work in progress"
And project the image of being confident; eventually, you will be

A big welcome to WP. It's never too late or early to be diagnosed, as many people here will tell you. I was diagnosed around age 40, though had been previously diagnosed with a variety of other conditions.

I too browsed and lurked here long before I registered and started posting. I hope you'll find what you need and want.

Ah, yes . . . the pig has nothing to do with self image. I was born in the year of the Boar/Pig in the Chinese zodiac for one. I also dwell in a city whose original name was Pig's Eye (now St. Paul). My father grew up on a pig farm. I like pork chops. So the name is a joke more than anything else.

Thanks for saying "a work in progress." Sometimes my progress is much slower than I want it to be. Nevertheless, it still it is progress.
