As I was saying in another topic, I have not had conversations with aspies in real life; I asked whether it is easier to have conversations between aspies; the response was generally yes. I think I would probably enjoy socializing with other Aspies in real life.

I am interested in the possibility of organizing a meet-up for Aspies. A group of us could meet and do whatever we planned, for example going to some restaurants, going to a theme park, going to the beach, waterskiing, bushwalking, or whatever.

As I am in Australia, it would be held in Australia, Sydney, Brisbane, or Melbourne. Aspies from anywhere would be welcome to participate, although I imagine it would be mostly or all Australians. Maybe New Zealanders as well. As for people from anywhere else... probably too costly but if you are willing to pay for your flight anyway, then sure.

Everyone would have to be no less than 18 years old because I cannot accept being held legally responsible for minors.

I do not know when this would be, I have not chosen a date, so far I am merely seeing if there is sufficient interest in the idea.

If you are posting a "Yes I'm interested" reply to this, feel free to include any suggestions about how you would like it to be run, duration, location, activities, etc.

Try posting on our Queensland forum, I think there's one or two Sydneyites there, or people from Sydney..(I mean people from Brisbane who have moved from Sydney which started in the early 1980's, I moved up with my family at the age of 8, in 1982).

There are a group of us in Brisbane who meet up from time to time..

There's a group in Townsville of about 5 or 6 people

NSW groups mostly for parents - but throughout the state - I did read they had an adult group in Sydney - maybe give Autism NSW a call.

Well I would if it was in Perth because I don't think I've got the spare change for a return flight to any of those places right now. Although I might be going to Brisbane sometime this year..

Astrarael, there's Donna in Perth who posts on our forum.

Sock Puppet, roughly whereabouts are you, if you want to reveal your location?

Hi! I'm going on vacation in Australia very soon.

I'll be in Sydney from May 5-10 and again June 1-5. The time between that will be spent touring and sailing. I'd love to meet up!

Oh, I was not thinking so soon. It is almost May already, I could not possibly organize a group meetup that quickly. Start of June is probably unlikely as well, due to my work commitments, sorry.

Hi Jetson,

It's a pity you're not coming up to Brisbane, we have a group up here..oh well.

Anyway if you posted on the forum I posted above, you might find someone in Sydney you could meet with.

I dwell in my natural habitat in my fortress of solitude about 2 hours north of Ye Old Sydney Town, which is approximately 17 days travel as the penguin flies (or if he decides to catch a Cityrail Train).

I was thinking it would just be nice to meet one or two people for lunch (at the Hard Rock Cafe, perhaps), and not really expecting some great big organized group event.

I actually will be passing through Brisbane but it's part of a guided tour and I'll only be there for a few hours at most.

First off, I'm not an Australian, I'm an American, but it sounds like something that's worthwhile. Problem. Australia is a big country, so how do you make it happen?

Anyone with ideas. If you can pull it off in Australia, maybe we can try to pull it off here. We're not as big, but we have some of the same distance problems.

Whatever, keep me posted, and someone might e-mail Newchum (Bendigo), because he's interested in this kind of thing.

Keep me posted.

HAHAHA! Don't we all love Cityrail!

I'm from Sydney myself. Moving to Florida in 1.5 months though :)

I think there are some people down there (the Gold Coast is south of Brisbane for overseas readers).
