Hi I'm new.

But actually I'm old, 'cause I've recently turned 45.

I found out that I had Asperger's last year.

Life is much better since I found out I was hardwired this way, and not

  • mentally unstable
  • an alien in human form
  • evolving into a cat (actually I think this one is still true)
  • adopted (this really pissed off my parents)
  • etc

Oh, and I now live in South Africa, although I'm actually Scottish

I love your user name! Its great.

I'm 45 years old as well so I know for a fact that it is not old. Well, not that old anyway....

I think you summed up nicely how many "mature" adults have said they felt once diagnoised...except maybe for the cat part.

I hope you enjoy the forums.

From a fellow (non Scottish and non Aspergic, but who agrees with you on Sheri S. Tepper) SA'n, greetings.

Yeah, if only she was more prolific. Enjoyed The Companions last year. Only one I've not been able to read (it's on my bookshelf) is Beauty, which was a Locus book of the year, LOL.

Many thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I'm quickly settling in, although I already seem to have upset one person, LOL. But what would a group of Aspies be without contention? (Deathly quiet, perhaps?)

I have a question for late diagnosed, older Aspies. I have no memory of my childhood - a pervasive amnesia I was told. I've come across a couple of other cases where Aspies had the same memory absence, plus a suggestion that it affects around 12% of Aspie adults who didn't get help or treatment growing up (but as with all stats I have my doubts - it sounds like they may have found one such in an eight person study).

Does anyone else out there have the same thing?
