Hi there.
I'm Alena. I'm 24 and from England

I'm here because I'm not sure if I have Aspergers or not. Whether I do, or don't I'd appreciate some feedback about some behaviours I have had my whole life.

I showed the wikipedia article on Aspergers to my mother and friend. He said all geeks have autism a bit but that I was being a hypochondriac. My mother said something similar but agreed that I might have it "a bit" and my father slightly autistic but no need to think about it.. I let it slide, and dropped it but recently heard a radio 4 documentary that left me in tears.

I have had obsessions over time, a very geeky girl I've been very involved in my interests to the point of obsession and they tend to have a bit of an overlap.
they have involved Games, Astrology, Animating, Reading, Programming and a few TV shows

I enjoy programming. I get a kick out of applying logical puzzles especially working alongside graphics, breaking all the rules and then making all the essential things bit by bit. I taught myself and I always figured there were tons of people out there far better than I but now my ego is at peace... but people think I am depressed by the way I act and sound even though I have the life I've always wanted.

There are very few other women in my field, and the ones who have made a name for themselves tend to be very headstrong and self-confident, which is something I lack the majority of the time. I also wish I had the communication skills to inspire/mentor others.

I flinch when people touch me. I don't mind a light gentle touch, and hugs can be good but unexpected touching makes me jump a mile.

I am sensitive to sounds, especially my mother's voice(!) and mobile phone noise, also a lot of high-pitched or loud electrical noise. It sort of has the same fuzzly feeling in my head to when I yawn, anyone else get that? I don't like any talking when I'm concentrating, as a lot of people.

I rest and sleep in weird positions. I have recently developed more distinct anxiety behaviours. When I start it's like an addiction and I try to just stop myself. Most often in the evening.

I can be fairly incoherent, and tend to look away. Sometimes somebody will tell me something, I'll start answering before the meaning has kicked in and I'll go back on myself "I see what you mean, etc"... I repeat words a lot. I seem to have a liking for any repeating words "good-good, bye-bye, not-bad,not-bad" but repeat whole sentences like a practice launch.

Would be happy entirely alone days at a time, with only means to stay creative.

I don't, however, have problem with people interfering with my routine. I welcome change and seek adventure, although not all the time I see it as essential. I don't make ridged rules about things and I am a pretty flexible and laid-back/mellow in that way although more tense.

Looking forward to hearing from you interesting folk!

Hello Alena,

Welcome To

Creating and challenging theoretical geometry is not required to be on the spectrum.
That being said, in all likelihood, it probably does take an Aspie to actually prove it.
As for the hypochondriac accusation's, perhaps they are right, and they have an explanation for your thought's feeling's and action's. Ask them if they can explain away things that they are unaware of, it could very well be an educational experience for all.

Please don't get me wrong, my quack would sew my mind shut if he knew I was suggesting such a thing. I don't wish aspergers on anyone, hopefully you can get a better idea of if and where you might fit on the spectrum. There are online test of all sorts to help you along the way, but keep in mind, they are indeed for reference only. However it does tend to piss off the mental health professionals as to the simplicity of their accuracy.

As to all your symptoms / characteristics, yep, you are telling the story of my life, but there are many other things to consider before ruling out other possibilities. ADD / PTSD to start with. Stay around a while and feel free to kick back or jump in with all fours. :D

you're certainly a geek.

Whether you are an aspie is hard to say.
Could very well be.

Im curious about how your interests interrelated.

When I was your age i used to design games.
Board games using dice.

Do you design games?

Thanks all for the welcome :) goo planet! I have made an appointment with the GP so I'll be updating if I can get referred to a specialist and how the diagnosis goes. Already I feel I have got some support and can't see the harm.

I do indeed design games. Board games are cool, what kind? I have recently played Catan and Caylus, they are good

In recent years I used to go to mensa ( the high IQ society) game night. I played a game in which you play a whole civilization competing with others to colonize and conquor a continent. Kinda chess monopoly and other games combined-forget the name- it was kool.

Back when I was your age I played various war simulation board games( that was back when the only computer games were pong and space invaders).

And soon I started designing my conflict simulaton games. My own star trek game for example- involving a homemade star map movable markers for ships and bases, dice, etc.

My favorite obsession was 20th centurey naval warfare- similuting battleships, cruisers, subs, in combat in the two world wars. Took ideas from existing games and designed my own- it was more addicting than crack for a while ( i know because a friend turned me on to crack and I never used it again- but naval wargaming- that took over my life for a while).

Im not familiar wiith the 2 games you mentioned.
