This is my first thread on Wrong Planet, so I am here to say "G'day!"
I was diagnosed as being on the very mild end of the Asperger's spectrum around 3 months ago, so I am in the process of recontextualising my experiences and self.
My older brother was diagnosed a few years ago, so I already knew something about Asperger's.
I have been recovering from the effects of a long term illness caused by an assault many years ago - I am beginning to learn that being maltreated by some of the more ignorant NTs is part of the territory.
That gives me cause to ponder whether being NT would constitute a disability. I do find that many NTs tend to be ignorant of some incredible loveliness that seems to be patently obvious.
As part of my recovery from the illness, I've been studying at college - a Diploma in Professional Writing and Editing. I have a talent for writing and have recently begun contributing as a freelancer to a state government website. It is nice to be paid for doing the thing that makes you come alive: in my case that is writing.
I'm also discovering the reasons why relationships have eluded me for so long. The miscommunications that cause so much angst.
Yet I am a writer, and (so I've been told) a talented one, so in many ways, I feel lucky that I can communicate in that way.
So I want to say "G'day!" (yes, I'm from Oz) and extend my hopes to meet some other lovely aliens who reside on the Wrong Planet.
Cheers,
Me
