I'm Matt, I'm 18 from Orlando. Self-diagnosed myself with Asperger's about a year ago. I've seen shrinks throughout my childhood but I was never diagnosed, which kind of annoys me.

I'm a total music addict. I love to sing and write.

No real friends aside from my brother's and a few online people.

I decided to join because lately I've had intense suicidal thoughts, and thought coming here might help.

I was wondering, what's the general sentiment towards people who are self-diagnosed as apposed to those who were diagnosed by a doctor?

Welcome to Wrong Planet!

Don't stress the self diagnosis thing. Hanging out here will either strengthen your self diagnosis or possibly lead you to something else that fits better if AS doesn't.

If you need to find someone in your area that is experienced with diagnosing AS, I can probably help you find one. One of the people that used to attend the support group I go to in Tampa lives in Orlando and used to drive to Tampa to attend our group. I can find out who he got his diagnosis from if you need.

You mentioned suicidal thoughts. I'll PM you with my number. If you ever need someone to talk to, please feel free to contact me.
