Hullo,

I have posted here a few times but never formally introduced myself.

My name is Thobeka.
I have been described as "borderline autistic" by some and scored the higher-than-32-whatever on the Simon Baron-Cohen AQ test, but have never sought a formal diagnosis.

I have always had a hard time with things like eye contact and conveying emotions effectively, etc. I also have synesthesia (certain words, letters and numbers have colors or feelings) and a general fondness for numbers. For example, it takes 4728 steps to walk from the Egyptian Museum to my doorstep, which is awesome because not only does 4x7=28, but because the colors of 4,7,2, and 8 mix together to make turquoise which is my favorite color!

Aaaaanyhow......

I became a behavioral therapist for children with autism a couple of years ago (when i quit working at that museum, lol) because I found myself drawn to the field. Not to mention the training and experience has helped me learn a lot about myself and the science of human interaction.

Now I am a counselor at a special needs school.
I don't really do well socially with adults and I'm told I have a lot of strange quirks, but I relate to the kids okay and enjoy working with them through their difficult times. We learn alongside each other about all kinds of things: communication, social skills, what's appropriate vs what isn't, etc..... and I think they help me just as much as I help them, if not much more so.

Anyway enough of my rambling.

I just came across this new article on synesthesia, which reminded me of your introduction post:
Synesthetic experiences, such as seeing a certain color associated with a number, are real and automatic
