Hello everyone! I'm 38 and mildly Autistic, i only know one other person of my age with autism as in my days i don't think it was recognised. didn't know myself for many years, but knew i was somewhat different due to the special schools i went to as a child of which i never really knew why i was going there.
Back then i was called slow with learning difficulty and was given every vaccinations under the sun, i suspect this may have made things worst over the years.
I've learned to cope quite well with it over the years but fear that i have made things much worst by using illegal drugs.
I've stopped, but the damage is already done and there's no going back.
I only hope that those with Autism never ever take the path i'd taken, because when you get to my age, it becomes really really bad and only gets worst!
Comunicating verbaly is extremely hard for me, so meeting new people is a no go area, but writing seems to be my best way. thank God text mesaging! I'm so glad my son also with autism has introduced me to this site as it will help me share the lessons i've learned plus give me a chance to communicate through writing where people won't judge me for being different.

Maybe or maybe not, but I do believe at least half the folks here are over 30 ...

Welcome!

I'm 63 and feel it. I've worked only one and off since 2003 when my business writing books and developing continuing education courses in chronic pain management failed. I sleep much of the time to down regulated the pain as the medication barely reduces it and even when I'm not in that much pain I nap once or twice a day because I get tired very easily. I try to be productive at my computer but but sitting in my computer chair strains my back and makes me tired. I no longer care about developing friends because chronic pain makes me so tired I don't have the energy to try to find them. And on top of everything else I'm so energy lacking that I can't pursue any of the special projects which have given meaning to my life. Finally, I am told my brain is shrinking and whatever sound cognigtion I had before I have less of with each passing way. I guess all I have to look forward to now is death not too soon but death nonetheless.

Thanks for following my advice, this is definitely a good place to start.... I'm shocked that you took the worstest drugs, I seriously did not know about that... was this why you was so depressed over the years?

I've seen a couple of them on there before, I wouldn't class this as the first time but it would normally be mother and son or daughter.... I'm going to guess that we are the first?

yep! unfortunately Ian, the drugs did most of the damage. when i finish work i go home and get lost in time, exept for tv which keeps me semi aware of reality. When i'm off, its a real nightmare, i can't even get out of my room in case i bump into housemate and have to say hello or make small talk. going out gets worst. actualy, this is so weird! i've never revealed this to anyone and feel really strange talking about it. better stop for now so i can get my head around the fact i've started talking about it.
