I'm 28, live in the states, and have AS. I was officially diagnosed two years ago, but had suspected for quite a while I might have it, and even before that always knew I was different than most people, just wasn't sure how.

Most of my family is not very accepting or supportive, and I often get comments like "just stop acting that way," or "put a smile on your face and act like the rest of us."

Luckily, I have a wonderful fiancee who is very understanding and supportive. She is a NT, but has a younger sister with AS, so she is very familiar with it. We met online.

I have the standard job difficulties that many of us suffer from. I don't like interviews, but can usually get through them. The problems always start once I get hired and have to interact with co-workers and or customers. As such my job history is atrocious and I'm unemployed.

Welcome to WrongPlanet, and welcome to my time warp.

I'm very nostalgic about the years, that Mick Avory was a Kink. 1964-1984

Welcome to Wrong Planet, Variant!! :D

It's nice to hear that you have such a wonderful fiancee, even if you're family isn't that supportive.

Hi Variant, welcome, glad you found us. :)

That sounds familiar--I've always known I was "different" too--I just wasn't sure how.

As it is, I'm still only self-diagnosed, but for now that's enough for me.

I'm glad you have a supportive fiancee. Sorry your family is not. Many people here have to deal with that, sadly.

There are a LOT of unemployed people now--AS and NT--so don't feel so bad about that.

Again, welcome to WP, glad you're here.

Thanks Scientist, Anonymous, and Tim. It is nice to have found a place where I can post my thoughts without being ridiculed for them.
