I'm new to this website and new to this syndrome. I am a 35 year old woman with a very patient and understanding husband and two children. I discovered aspergers while browsing the web looking for questions into why my youngest daughter has some of the issues that she has and discovered that the nut never falls far from the tree. Over the past few weeks I have discovered more about myself and everyday another lightbulb goes off in my head. I've always felt odd and alone. I absolutely hate social situations and even at the age I am I will cry my eyes out if I have to go to a wedding or holiday at the inlaws because my anxiety gets to strong for me to handle. My life long obsession has been with fish. I have four fishtanks and I maintain fishtanks in a pet store. I enjoy the work because I don't have to interact with too many people and it gives me a chance to learn more about the topic I love the most. I have an above average I.Q. but very little people sense. I am right now in the process of being diagnosed but every doctor I talk to has no idea what aspergers is. I am looking forward to learning more on this website and have to say that I have been on other websites and I enjoy the lightheartedness of the people on this one the most. I guess you would have to have a sense of humor in order to go on a site called "wrong planet" but that is exactly the way I feel!

Hey tankgirl! I'm in PA too. My lifelong thing has been horses. I never even realized it until my daughter was diagnosed AS, and it hit me that I'm just like her in alot of ways.

I'm 34, and still have the 'obsession', lol. I also dread the social interaction; my hubby glories in it like when we get together with his friends. I sometimes get physically ill just thinking about it. The wives HATE me - I'm so different from them, no interest in playing social butterfly

So yeah. Know how ya feel. It's getting to that time of year, too...my hubby will want to do the bar-b-q thing with his buds and I will have to play nice (sigh) with the Stepford wives.

What part of PA are you in, can I ask? I'm in the York/Harrisburg area.

I live in the Reading Allentown area. I also don't like to be a social butterfly. My husband and his family are all so outgoing and there I am sitting in the background just waiting for the whole ordeal to be over. I usually play babysitter and it gives me the perfect excuse to be uninvolved in the conversation and I feel much more comfortable aroun children!

Reading/Allentown? No way! I'm just about to move from there.

Hello and welcome! Your story sounds so familiar. I always referred to myself as painfully shy and a homebody. It wasn't until my son was diagnosed and I read up on AS on the internet that everything just clicked and fell into place. I had never heard of it before.

Wow, similar story here... I came here to learn more about my daughter, and discovered as you say so well... "The nut never falls far from the tree".

Yep. Last get-together we had with my hubby's friends, I sat in the living room surrounded by kids and (had more fun) while the wives chatted in the kitchen and the men were in the back yard.

It's so nice to know I'm not the only one this has happened to!
