Hi...new here.
I'm not formally diagnosed with any ASD. I've had OCD since I was a little kid, although I didn't get diagnosed until I was a teenager. I'm in my early twenties now. I'm also an extremely introverted person. I've joined this website because one of my best friends has Asperger's Syndrome. I love talking to her because she always has such an interesting perspective on things. I relate to her more than I do to NTs. She told me a long time ago that she suspected I was a fellow Aspie, although perhaps it was just the OCD. I don't know too much about these things. Perhaps there are similarities? I kind of suspect undiagnosed AS though.
I had a miserable time when I was a little kid because I wanted to complete things to my satisfaction before moving on to something else--a big problem in the school environment where one task gets piled on another and there isn't time to get anything "perfect". I had a heck of a temper and it was always getting me in trouble. More than anything, I wanted to be a "good kid", but I couldn't understand what my teachers and parents wanted me to do in order to be "good". So instead I was stuck being a "bad kid", even though I didn't want to be. Learning "social skills" has probably been just about the longest and most difficult battle of my life. In elementary school I was an outcast because I couldn't control my temper and didn't know how to behave with other kids. In middle school I finally learned to just keep my mouth shut, and though this didn't make people like me, it did allow me to slide by unnoticed. I've pretty much been following this method ever since...so I guess I have yet to learn to actually be sociable.
